MBNA increasing interest rate on credit cards

MBNA rate rise I got the same letter - I guess it is across the board. I have a large enough balance, but chose to close the account and keep paying it off at 10.4% rather than accept the increase. I guess they're trying to squeeze as much money out of their customers, especially those than...

iPod - duplicate artist file names - why?

Check the ID3 tags (Get Info on each track) - you might find that some tracks are listed with guest artists e.g. "U2 & Green Day" under the Artist tag. This will cause separate listings for "U2" and "U2/Green Day" when browsing by Artist. The way to fix this is to use the Album Artist tag -...

Did anyone get a new NTL DVR?

Must have missed this one - NTL have only been talking about launching DVRs for over a year. So when are they going to get around to launching HDTV then?

4 Bose Speakers: How do I connect to PC?

You would normally need an amp - connect the PC to the amp and the amp to the speakers. In theory, you can split RCA cables and connect the bare wires to your speaker wires... but it will either blow the speakers or be too quite. Not sure I'd try it!

2.5 hour audio, what to save it to?

Your options are probably DVD (with CD-A files), MP3, or... last but not least, 2 x CD-Rs! I'd nearly go with the latter, for maximum portability!

How to hook up LCD TV, NTL digital and surround sound

NTL Digital's current model of STB (the small, silver Pace one, model no. [broken link removed]) has an Optical (S/PDIF) output that will carry surround to your amp. So, it's NTL -> SCART -> SCART on your PC (choose RGB if available) NTL -> Digital Sound Out -> Amp Or: NTL -> SCART +...

getting songs from iTunes to phone

To be claer, the Samsung and most Nokia or Sony Ericsson phones support MP4 music / AAC files. What they don't support is the DRM of iTunes Store purchases. So, music in someone's iTunes Music Library on their own PC may be non-protected AAC (or MP3) or Protected AAC. Only the latter will...

DVD recording from TV: poor quality

How are you connecting the Cable Set Top Box to your DVD? If you are using a coaxial cable (i.e. similar to the arial connection which would go into the back of your TV) then you are using the built-in analogue tuner in your Panasonic DVD recorder. You are then probably using RF out to bring the...

    transferring music to ipod

Michael, just curious - would you like to clarify why the sound would be crap, if you use either the manual method posted below or one of the utilities to copy iPod MP3s back onto your hard drive? Or are you referring to the analogue connection hole (covered below)? Apple probably don't...

    repairs to CD players etc.

A new CD lens (the component that is most likely at fault) could cost you up to €100 to fit. So, it depends on how much the system cost - is it worth spending this much on fixing it? However, as Clubman says, you should clean it first - there are CD lens cleaners available in retail.

How to connect DVDR player & PS2 to telly

As IrishGunner says, a SCART switcher will work. Alternatively, you could connect the PS2 to the DVD recorder's AV input, which is probably either a SCART input or 3xRCA i.e. video (yellow)/stereo left & right (red/white). Connect your DVD recorder to your TV's SCART AV input. So, to watch or...

What do you think of Cordless Laser Mice?

For may laptop, I have been using a HP Bluetooth mouse which tucks away into the CardBus (PCMCIA) socket on my laptop when not in use. It is neat enough, goes into powersaving mode after a few mins inactivity - you have to click the mouse to wake it up. However, I am probably going to give...

    HDTV Terrestrial Trial

All the threads which cover digital TV trials and HDTV trials seem to be over 2 years old and/or dead, so I thought I would create a new one. Full article . Does anyone on AAM know anyone who is participating in this trial? I wonder if my dual analogue & DVB-T tuner card will work for this...

Moved music to external drive - itunes not working

Can you be more specific as to why iTunes won't play them? The DRM should not be an issue provided you are still using iTunes on the same PC. Using a different drive to locate your iTunes Music Folder should not matter. You are aware that simply copying files (MP3 or AAC or whatever) into your...

    laptop for music + photos

You can choose XP or Vista from Dell. However, I have Vista on my Dell laptop and am happy with it. I would personally spend a little more - say, a grand - to upgrade hard drive, memory, CPU etc. You might think you are going to only surf the net and do up the odd CV, but before you know it...
