Got a Samsung SGH-U600 the other day with a 1GB mem card. Been trying to put songs from my iTunes library onto phone but says theyre "protected" and phone software cant "see" them when it searches. ANyone know how to "unprotect" iTunes songs or can it be done at all?

Digital music downloaded from iTunes is in a "protected" AAC or M4P audio format. If your phone has an MP3 player it will not recognise them.

Do a search on google for tips on converting M4P to MP3. I successfully used the Jhymn program mentioned here a few years ago but I think it may not work on more recent versions of iTunes.

Another alternative is to burn your iTunes files (in AAC) to a CD or DVD and then use another program such Windows Media Player to rip the CD/DVD to mp3...

To be claer, the Samsung and most Nokia or Sony Ericsson phones support MP4 music / AAC files.

What they don't support is the DRM of iTunes Store purchases.

So, music in someone's iTunes Music Library on their own PC may be non-protected AAC (or MP3) or Protected AAC. Only the latter will need to be converted (possibly via the CD rip route) - the former will play on most modern phones without conversion.
