"Almost one in 10 young Irish adults believe Holocaust is a myth"

They need reminding that their job is to present programs, not influence protests.

I think you need reminding that RTÉ is in a protest against the participation of Israel in the Eurovision. Not just the journalists, camera-crew, canteen staff etc - the national broadcaster as an entity is in protest.

If they are really that concerned let them go on strike for 3 years without pay like the afore mentioned Mary Manning did.
Mary Manning did not go on strike in protest against SA apartheid regime.

She went on strike after being suspended from her job, for protesting the apartheid regime.

RTE are unlikely to suspend anyone from their jobs as RTE, the entity, is in protest against the participation of Israel in Eurovision due to the concerns highlighted above.

Had Dunne Stores, the corporate entity, refused to stock South African goods then Mary Manning and her colleagues need never have gone on strike.

Rte refused their request to avoid using the name Allianz in the program. Same thing. So time for them to stand up...

It would be great if they did, certainly. Glad to see you have changed your tune and are now openly advocating for RTE staff to take industrial action against the use the Allianz name.

Today is the International Holocaust Rememberence day. Very little on Irish media about it. I picked it up from BBC.
Opportunity lost maybe to tackle the10%. in thread title.

Perhaps that ship has sailed? The holocaust was after all over 80yrs ago.

That is not intended in anyway to say a wrong was not done. But it is time for the Israelis to work with what they have and make the best life possible for their people. It is doing them a dis-service to support them into believing the victims of the holocaust should be perpetually remembered internationally and believed by young adults.
Support them to move on.

Copy and paste working well on your pc Sara...is it running on an intel chip ?

In fairness Joe, it is to demonstrate the double-standards that are applied to Israelis and Palestinians.

None of us here have the answer and I think we would all rejoice if a final durable settlement were found for both Israelis and Palestinians. Regrettably, we are as far off from that as ever.

In the absence of an agreed settlement, I advocate for those that I consider to be unduly suffering.
I found this news report from the height of anti-apartheid campaign on RTE. It is eerily similar to scenes in Gaza now.

If it was wrong then, it is wrong now.

A great find Sara.
I remember having an argument with a white South African when I was working that summer in a factory in England.
I might have already been influenced by the reporting around this strike.
It was a whole year, actually two before this gem

The young (as I was then) were way ahead of the old, as usual. A little over 10 years later we had the 1995 Rugby World Cup in South Africa
with Nelson Mandela as president

Indeed in @Inexpensive its important not to forget that Oct 7th was not the start of all this, albeit the media narrative tries to paint it that way.

That Spitting Image skit on Mastermind would never get made today.
The Tory, Labour and Liberal Friends of Israel, the Campaign against antisemitism (CAA), the lawyers
for Israel (LFI), the politically appointing of zionists in in high places in the BBC, their influence even over which judges hear which cases,
and the widespread adoption of the IHRA definition of antisemitism have collectively seen to that.
Yes, ITV is a different broadcaster to the BBC but similar factors apply.
It's not quite as in your face as the explicitly AIPAC controlled US Congress and Presidency but since Britain is America's
most faithful poodle, it matters little. Even if Britain wasn't already so extensively infiltrated it's likely that they would still
toe the Zionist line.
Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan, neither of whom I thought much of, would not have tolerated this sort of manipulation of
their countries for the benefit of a puny state in the Middle East.
Margaret Thatcher famously condemned Israel's atrocities in Lebanon in 1982 when interviewed by The Jewish Chronicle stating that it violated International Law. Can you imagine such a thing today?
Reagan, too told Begin to put a stop to the slaughter and that happened immediately.
Today Israel's PM does whatever he wants and the USA and the rest of the collective West comply.

So if I say that I support the right of the Palestinian people to resist [their oppressors] without telling you exactly what exact violence I'd find acceptable, it's meaningless.
Do you realise how silly that sounds?
You are engaging in meaningless virtue signalling and showing a childish lack of understanding of the issues.
In any conflict there have to be actions which are unacceptable, lines which should not be crossed. You are refusing to put any parameters on your statement, refusing to say that any action is unacceptable. That shows, at best, an ill thought out position devoid of any real moral integrity. If you think that pointing that out is silly then so be it.

Well if 80yrs ago is akin to the ship sailing, then this is the ship sailing, decommissioned, rotted, sunk and the stuff of myth and has no bearing on any claims for land today.
Why do you keep conflating completely different points?

And yet most Irish people are happy to go on holidays to, or even go to work in, Arab countries in which "guest workers" make up the majority of the workforce and are treated far worse than black people were treated in Apartheid era South Africa. If you or a family member is working as a teacher or nurse or doctor in UAE or Abu Dhabi then you are profiting from slavery, torture and murder and you have blood on your hands.

Since the Hamas attacks in October 2023 around 25,000 construction workers have died in the Gulf States. When you are staying there make sure to wipe the blood off your shoes before you go into your hotel.

I must have missed the bit when RTE sports journalists refused to commentate in the Dubai Desert Classic, the World Cup in Qatar (where 6,500 construction workers died building the venues), or any of the other sports washing events held in the region.

Interestingly the rates of construction worker deaths in Israel and the Gulf States are comparable. In both cases they are about four times the rate here in Ireland. In Israel, the historical trend was for Arabs i.e. Palestinians to account for 80% of construction fatalities. I say historical because since October 7th there are fewer Palestinians from the occupied territories allowed in for work.

Yep, but it's not okay for Irish people to work in Israel anymore.

Well even in quite a disturbing and paranoid post that line stands out. What is the "Zionist line"? Who are the "Zionists"?

Zionist; a supporter of Zionism; a person who believes in the development and protection of a Jewish nation in what is now Israel. I support the existence of Israel and so I'mm a Zionist. I'm not aware of being part of any group which has "extensively infiltrated" the UK or anywhere else.

Using the word Zionist as a pejorative term is more than a little bit bigoted.

I watched Anthony Hopkins in "One Life" on Monday night, BBC's self-congratulatory, cursory nod to the Holocaust, a fact-based film about one man and his small team's magnificent work saving more than six-hundred Jewish children's lives after Hitler's annexation of Czechoslovakia.

I watched "Holocaust - Night Will Fall" on Channel 4 last night. I'd suggest that it be compulsory viewing for Holocaust naysayers.

The sheer industrialised scale of the mass-murder of Jews, gays, gyspies, the mentally ill, genetically different and other human beings targeted by the Nazis for ethnic cleansing defies belief, even 80 years later. The sight of bodies, little bigger than skeletons, lying in heaps in various extermination camps was sickening as was the sight of the insides of the massive ovens with charred skeletal remains inside them and outside.

The German people living in proximity to these horror camps must have been blind, deaf and lacking in odour detection senses as the soldiers who liberated the survivors remarked on the smells of death from the camps and the dense smoke from the ovens which they noticed from miles away.

The film-makers, directors, producers, including some well-known names like Alfred Hitchcock, feared that the public at large would dismiss what they were seeing as made-up movie-land special-effects and they went to great lengths to include footage that would pass all deniability tests. The films themselves were used as evidence in the Nuremberg trials of the leading Nazis and camp staff. In my view, the death sentences passed on a lot of them were too lenient. Living out the remainder of their lives in the conditions they'd subjected millions of innocents to might have been more fitting.

One of the more disturbing facts highlighted is that parents of twins were singled out for perhaps the greatest con of all time. Knowing they themselves were likely to die, they sold their twin children to the Nazis in the belief they would survive, be well treated. They didn't know they'd be used in horrendous experiments, deliberately infected with horrendous diseases, by the likes of Josef Mengele in order to "further medical science". The sight of the children, some of them holding hands, being marched to "safety" between massive barbed wire fences I found to be particularly disturbing. Some of the surviving children, who identified themselves on films, were interviewed.

The Nazis industrialised the entire mass-murder processes at various locations, The cameramen filmed tonnes of human hair warehoused for sale. There were metres high heaps of footwear, gloves, spectacles and teeth warehoused for resale. After death and pre-incineration, the dead were stripped of anything of value, including camp clothing which was repaired and re-issued to the next train-loads of victims. The dead had no value, they had no dignity; they were detritus, nuisances to be disposed of. Their meagre possessions were a means of enriching the monsters running the camps and the extermination system

I didn't sleep last night. I may not sleep tonight either. We've learned nothing and we still lack any modicum of civilised behaviour, as mass-murder, ethnic cleansing and starvation as weapons of war still persist with some governments and so-called freedom-fighters.

Those definitions are all fine and dandy except for one detail.
There was already a people living in the land the zionists chose, the vast majority of whom weren't Jewish.
Therefore to create a Jewish State in Palestine necessitated violence, dispossession, massacres and ethnic cleansing.
That's what you support if you're a zionist whether you're aware of it or not.
Not to mention the fact that it's an ongoing process.

You can make same point the world over.
Why just focus on Isreal ?
Indian tribes in America come to mind as I finish season 5 of Yellowstone.

Couldn't agree more with this statement and was recently at the forefront of my thoughts while visiting and waiting to sign the visitors/comments book at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, a very upsetting day that yet again displayed the savageness of the warmongers of our world
