"Almost one in 10 young Irish adults believe Holocaust is a myth"

"We raised concerns about use of the name Allianz in the program title but were told Rte were contractually obliged to use it."

Not sure who the "we" refers to, probably the far left union in Rte.

Shocking
Absolutely appalling introduction of a personal political agenda into sports coverage in the Public Sector Broadcaster.

Well if it means you're a simpleton for supporting a just cause then we're simpletons.
Any support support of the current oppressive barbaric murderous fundamentalist regime in Gaza is morally bankrupt and utterly moronic.

There are two sides fighting each other in the Israel Gaza conflict and both are repugnant and unworthy of any support.

Unless you can outline in some detail what constitutes "supporting the Palestinian cause" then it is a meaningless virtue signalling. If anyone support the aims of Hamas then they are as morally repugnant as them. Ditto for supporting the aims of the current Israeli government.

Anyone who questions the facts of the Nazi death camps because of the actions of the current Israeli government, or thinks that somehow the Jewish victims of that genocide are less deserving of sympathy because of the actions of the current Israeli government is a bigot and an anti-Semite.

Well if it means you're a simpleton for supporting a just cause then we're simpletons.

The problem with many simpletons is that they tend to over-simplify complex historical issues. It's reminiscent of the sheep in Animal Farm braying "four legs good, two legs bad".

(For the record, I find the actions of both the Hamas war criminals and the war criminal currently running Israel evil and utterly reprehensible.)

I support the right of Palestinians to live as equal citizens in their own land.
I support the right of those who were ethnically cleansed (and their descendants) to return to their homeland as per UN resolution 194 which was adopted by the United nations in 1948 but blocked by Israel ever since.
Until those things happen, I support the right of the Palestinian people to resist.

So do I.
I support the right of those who were ethnically cleansed (and their descendants) to return to their homeland as per UN resolution 194 which was adopted by the United nations in 1948 but blocked by Israel ever since.
Does that include the 400,000 to 800,000 or so Jews expelled from their homes and land across the Arab and Persian world during the same process?

Until those things happen, I support the right of the Palestinian people to resist.
Is that an unqualified support?
Does it include attacks in any country which they deem to be their enemy?
Is it okay for them to set of bombs in Europe?
Is it okay for them to set off bombs here?
Do you support their aim to remove Israel from the face of the earth and to kill every Israeli who opposes them (including the Jews who always lived there, LBGT Palestinians who fled there, etc)?
Do you support their ethnic cleansing of Christian and other minorities from the areas they control?
Do you support the mass murder of their political opponents within the lands they control?

Do you support blowing up airplanes?

Do you support blowing up busses full of school children?
How many children can they murder until your support becomes qualified?

I'm not sure if there's anything that I can say I support without qualification.

The ship has sailed on this. Its nearly 80 years ago. So many maps and borders have been re-drawn over the centuries, we can't revisit them. That is not intended in anyway to say a wrong was not done. But it is time for the Palestinians to work with what they have and make the best life possible for their people. It is doing them a dis-service to support them into believing they can get the land back because this in turn is fueling support for the likes of Hamas.
Support them to move forward.

Countries and people have been partitioned since the beginning of recorded history. In the period after the Second World War India was partitioned into India and East and West Pakistan (East Pakistan is now Bangladesh).

The current problems in the Middle East stem from the partition of the Ottoman Empire after the First World War, which is turn stem from the Sykes-Picot Agreement in 1916, the competition between Britain and France, Britain's need for access to India through Suez and her need for coaling stations in the region, the discovery of oil, the Second World War, the fear of pan-Arab nationalism and the Cold War... etc.

The Ottomans conquered the region through bloodshed and, yes, displacement and forced conversion (ethnic cleansing).

The Muslim conquest of the region was more bloody and wiped out thousands of years of culture, religion and ethnic identity.

The conquest of the Arabian peninsula by Ibn Saud’s militants between 1902 and 1925 killed tens of thousands of people (but not the 400,000 to 800,000 often claimed). It did cause massive displacement and lots of ethnic cleansing.

Even if the modern State of Israel had never existed there's still be bloodshed and war in the region because that's how nations are formed. Europe went through hundreds of years or wars (and numerous partitions) before the modern map took shape.

The map of the world was drawn in blood, it's just that in our bit of the globe the blood has dried and darken enough so as to look like ink.

Since when??

It's almost as though you are completely unaware of the last 2 and half years, never mind last 80 years!!

It is very much a live issue.

Can you imagine applying similar bare-faced discriminatory views to the victims and survivors of the Nazi holocaust? "That was over 80yrs ago, time to get over it, move on".

In fact, isnt this what this topic if fundamentally based on? An upsurge of denial. Denial of that holocaust? And in turn you are effectively trying to deny what the international community has mandated for the Palestinian people.

And then you are" shocked" over a respected RTE journalist for merely raising concerns about the use of a corporate name and logo that has been apparently listed in a UN Report as somehow being complicit in genocide!

If journalists cannot raise concerns to authority, who will be left?

Not in any meaningful way, in that it can't and won't be reversed. British Mandated Palestine isn't going to be un-partitioned and nobody's getting their land or homes back.

That's exactly what's happened. The descendants of the victims of the Nazi Holocaust haven't and won't get their lands and businesses back.

You are conflating two completely different things. One is the denial of the historical facts around the Nazi Holocaust. The other is the rejection of the proposition that the creation of the State of Israel can be undone.

That's the ship that has sailed; the notion that somehow the Palestinians will get back the land they claim within the borders of Israel. It's not going to happen. India won't be un-partitioned. Ulster won't be un-planted etc.

Great

No one currently living in Palestine would be expelled but the right of return would be extended to include Palestinians as well as Jews.

In the first 25 days after October 7th, it's likely that Israel killed more Palestinian civilians than the number of Israeli civilians killed by Palestinians in the preceding 75 years, including October 7th.
It's obvious which side have behaved like savages and ought to be opposed by all civilised countries.

EDITED: replaced 'are the savages' with 'have behaved like savages' which is a more correct way of phrasing it.

Her job is to present the progam and correctly name the competition.
Have you double checked every single item you have purchased in the psst year to ensure there is no link to Isreal...including all the supply chains and sub chains. And all your financial services. And then done the same for your employer - its important not to be associated and have your image tarnished as it will slow down the return of Palestinians to their lands.

Her job is to present the progam and correctly name the competition.
Mary Manning's job back in 1984 was to sell the South African fruit that Dunnes Stores stocked.
But she refused.
The strike lasted until April 1987 when the Irish government banned the importation of South African goods. The ban came about as a result of public pressure in support of the strikers and was the first complete ban of South African imports by a Western government.

Like Mary Manning and Dunnes, the issue with Allianz is between the GAA and Allianz.

It is not an issue for a presenter on our national tv to take sides on. She can report on the issue of course but has no right to be involved in it. Neither has any other presenter.

Her job is to present the progam and correctly name the competition.

Her job, as far as I'm aware, is a journalist and broadcaster - and not a head-nodding corporate stooge.

I haven't seen the program yet but from what I can gauge on other reports she raised the matter of concerns in the context of several GAA county boards petitioning for Allianz to be removed?

In doing so, she is delivering public-service broadcasting. She is doing her job!

For a €160 TV licence per year, if only the private corporate head-nodding broadcasters could match it.

Have you double checked every single item you have purchased in the psst year to ensure there is no link to Isreal.

No, of course not. But you should take time to see why Allianz was identified by UN rapporteur.

It was identified as profiting from, or contributing to, IDF's military operations and supporting arms manufacturers linked to IDF atrocities.

So we are not talking about nappies, toothbrushes, and essential medical supplies and food here.
We are talking about an industry that derives its profits from manufacturing, sale, distribution and dispensing of lethal weapons on civil population that the ICC say may constitute crimes against humanity.

I would agree, in the real-politik of affairs that is the 99.99% certainty. Shamefully so, when its in the gift of Western powers to act otherwise.

The most despairing thing is the very thing that occurred to the Jews in Europe, the "never-again" sentiment is actually occurring in front of our eyes. Perpetuated by an Israeli government that invokes the memory of WWII as justification for its inhumane slaughter and subjugation of the Palestinian people - aided and abetted by the West Governments.

The next despairing thing is that Western governments appear clueless of the fomenting resentment building up in younger generations. And, in my opinion it is more than 'fad'. I believe it is becoming ingrained.
That's exactly what's happened. The descendants of the victims of the Nazi Holocaust haven't and won't get their lands and businesses back.

I agree, and I also agree it should happen "never-again", dont you?

The Palestinians didnt lose their land just 80yrs ago....they lost it 80yrs and every year since!! They are losing it today!

Surely its not beyond the civillised world, in 2025, to say Stop!

Disarm Israel, arrest Naziyahoo, boycott and sanction.

Instead, an unrelenting conquest of all Palestinian land is occurring.
The other is the rejection of the proposition that the creation of the State of Israel can be undone.
Nobody here proposed that. The proposition is for Israel to comply with international obligations, cease its criminal occupation of the West Bank, end the blockade of Gaza, recognise the State of Palestine and begin a peace process where both nations, people's can live in peace and prosper.

India won't be un-partitioned. Ulster won't be un-planted

I don't think anyone here is advocating any such measures? For India, Ulster or Israel.

Palestine would be the exception. There is clear intent by Israel, facilitated by Western powers to un-plant Palestinians from their land.
