Deliberately so. Man-made.

Shameful. Where is the humanity within the powers that be that can stop this immediately?

Genocide, ethnic cleansing, call it what it is, call it what you like, but when will the major powers stop cosying up to the Netanyahu regime and impose economic sanctions on the world's pariahs and stop them murdering infants, children and other innocents? Stop selling them weapons, stop selling them food, divert it to Palestine instead, stop buying their weapons, munitions, and other products and isolate them. Oh and stop banking with them.

Even in war there are laws. For the life of me I cannot understand how these so called double strikes are not automatically categorised as a war crime. They are disgusting murderous attacks on first responders trying to help those hit by the first strike. Terms such as "completely unacceptable" do not go nearly far enough to describe such attacks.

The events yesterday were abhorrent, unjustified, indiscrimate, and a cowardly terrorist attack .
The latest in a series of such. What can ordinary, decent Israeli citizens do to halt this madman and his reign of terror? Are they now also complicit if they don't take action?

President Higgins sharing some similar sentiments expressed above.

EU damaged by 'lethargic' Gaza response, says President

The President said he agrees with those leaders, such as French President Emmanuel Macron, who he said are now acknowledging the reputational damage to the European Union.

"Europe will find it very difficult to repair the damage that has been done by a lethargic response that has tolerated impunity."

The EU leaders are either scared of the Israeli -US axis or disinterested. I can’t believe it’s the latter?

Surely guilt over what the nazis did in the camps isn’t causing them to look the other way at this stage?

Anyone who expresses any view is accused of antisemitism, but Israeli citizens must see what’s going on and I can’t believe they are ok with it. I know they have a long history of border issues but the current situation is beyond that.

And I am assuming that the average Israeli citizen isn’t unaware, they have access to world media.

The Jewish community across the world mainly seem to see Israel as their homeland, even if they don’t live there. I have several Jewish cousins in the USA who have spent time there working, mostly as student in kibbutz. But several lived there for a few years. They are silent on this, vocal on many human rights issues but silent on this. Do Jews internationally support NaziYahoo?

.

They're is a hypocrisy about Michael D and Ireland's position given our stance in WW2. Perhaps before condeming Israel, we should start by apologising to the Jewish people for doing nothing whilst they were slaughtered in their millions. After all, we've apologised to the women in the Mother & baby homes, Britain apologised for the famine, perhaps we should do the same?.

Secondly, from a practical perspective, what do we do on Palestine?. Ireland has led the way in terms of recognising it as a country (which may aid any convictions for genocide/ethnic cleansing in time) but will the EU or NATO ever invade Israel?. No is the honest answer on that, too many hard lessons learnt from the Iraq invasion, Israel is too strong militarily so the costs in terms of EU/NATO losses would be massive. We can't arrest Netanyhu and his cronies (and BTW, isn't all of this a great distraction from Netanyhus corruption trials which are ongoing, or maybe I am being too cynical?) as long as they remain behind their own borders

The only people who can stop this are the Israel military and the Israeli people. Opinion polls show Likud would probably be beaten in an election, how can we encourage that further?. To me, to only way to do that is full economic sanctions against Israel.

As for boycotting Israeli products and companies that trade there, anyone who responds to this post is using chips and tech provided by firms who trade there also. If you are drinking a Starbucks or a Coke whilst doing this, if you are using Sudacream on a baby..... well where do you draw the line.?

BTW, lets not forget that the world and the middle east would be a better place without Hamas as well.

I agree we need to apologise for inaction in WWII. As do many nations. Europe didn’t know, then didn’t believe then didn’t act then did very little very late. And by way of apology said that European people had a right to land in the Middle East which wasn’t actually empty and for many decades has sat back and let them do pretty much what they wanted.

Hamas arent blameless of course.

I can’t see how they can unwind the situation but it’s clear that Israel is prepared to continue indefinitely

Agreed, but their long term solution is to wipe the Palestinians off the face of the planet, or at least off the face of the Levant. Where they go, Israel doesn't care.

Israel shouldn't have been created in the way that it was.
India shouldn't have been partitioned in the way that it was.
The Jewish population of the Arab world shouldn't have been expelled from their countries in the way that they were.
The Arab population of Israel and later Gaza and the West Bank should not have been displaced in the way that they were.
Ireland shouldn't have been planted in the way that it was.

None of the above can be undone.

The world is as it is now and organisations, governments and countries should be judged in the here and now. In that context the actions of the Israeli government are utterly wrong and abhorrent. There is no moral, legal, political or military justification for what they are doing.

Drawing moral equivalence between the Israeli government and Hamas is like trying to decide which turd smells worse. The actions of both should be seen and judged separately from each other.

There is famine and starvation in Sudan as well as Gaza. The difference is that Israel has the capacity and infrastructure to stop the one in Gaza today whereas even if the UAE decided to stop funding the war and genocide in Sudan today the famine there would continue. That is not the case with Israel and Gaza.

It certainly appears to be influencing Frau Ursula von der Plagarised PhD. Billy Kelliher didn't vote for her in the European parliament, but Sean Kelly did - which probably means that if he managed to get the FG nomination, he'd be absolutely stitched up for it by the Irish media. (And rightly so.)

We didn't just do nothing. We actually refused to take in Jewish orphans unless they converted to Catholicism. Dev had to be at his most politically astute to out maneuver many in his own party and just about everyone in FG to arrange for any help to be given at all.

I think it's more a fear of what would fill the vacuum. If we learned anything from the Arab Spring it's that the bad guys are usually replaced by even worse guys.

It's a fair point regarding Israel. When Netanyahu is finally dragged away to face his corruption trial, what replaces him as PM could be an even more hawkish and inhuman leader.

Yep, and if Hamas got their way and Israel was wiped off the face of the earth I don't think anyone could reasonably expect their government to be anything other than a form of tyrannical fundamentalist extremism which we haven't seen since ISIS were in their pomp, far worse than the current Israeli government. That in turn would further destabilise the region and lead to more bloodshed.

It's worth reading up on the decline and fall of the Ottoman Empire from 1800 until the First World War to see the level of conflict that is inevitable in a power vacuum and how outside forces inevitably make it far bloodier than it could have been. For example I don't think too many people are aware that in the 1830's Egypt nearly captured Constantinople. They were only prevented from doing so by the Russians fighting with the Ottomans. Over a hundred years of bloodshed and largely forgotten atrocities. The world needs to tread carefully.

None of that, of course, excuses the actions of the Israeli government. I'm just highlighting the dangers of intervention, economic or military.

Sweden, Netherlands call on EU to suspend trade with Israel

Is it too little, too late?

European countries need to start taking unilateral action against Israel. This institution of the EU has been found to be woefully incompetent. Consider the almost overnight sanctions against Russia, rightly. What we are witnessing is political bias and national interests over common humanity and justice.

Hungary should also be reprimanded for hosting Naziyahu and failing to arrest him while an active warrant was issued.
