Becoming a landlord – is it really that expensive?

As you state becoming a landlord is starting a business. Therefore mortgage interest is a business expense and should be fully allowable. Try telling any other business that their costs are not allowable.

    RAS Scheme House Inspection

The inspection is to ensure it is up to the standards they require - that it clean, has appropriate furnishings etc. There will also be a safety inspection, they will check for smoke alarms etc and may require you to get fire blankets/extinguishers where appropriate. Not too much to worry...

Is 7 too young to walk to school??

Stating that under 7 year olds should not walk to school does not imply that over 7 year olds should be capable of walking to school. It implies what it says - that children under 7 do not have the capacity to judge oncoming traffic. Those over 7 may or may not have the other abilities...

    Knock 2 houses into 1

Look at your first quote Pantone. It is not just but i.e. if the building was once a single dwelling and then changed into multiple dwellings, it can be converted back to a single dwelling without planning permission. It does not say that there is an exemption where the building was...

27 years old, single - consolidate debts?

Re: Financial advice Why are you paying rent and a mortgage? You seem to have quite a bit of disposable income after all your outgoings. I think watching your spending, getting rid of extras like gym and really making an effort to pay off your debts for a year or so should see you make a big...

Camper Van hire for Electric Picnic

I don't think this would work. It has to be a 'proper' campervan (with built in kitchen/toilet) to get on the site. I think they are quite strict on this. [broken link removed] OP, I'm afraid you will be hard pushed to get one at this stage.

Civil Service - AO competition - Irish Exam

Thanks for the reply Lin83. I did honours Leaving Cert Irish, but it was a few years ago, so it is a bit rusty now! I think I will try having a few conversations in Irish with more fluent friends, and if it starts to come back I will give the exam a bash. I don't want to have to do loads of...

Is it legal to raffle your home?

Did a guy in Spain do this recently? I remember reading something about it. I don't know anything about the legalities of it here though, sorry.

people recieve their Electric Picnic tickets yet?

I received mine a few weeks ago. I'd give them a bell to check what the story is.

    Problems with O2 network

Have you contacted O2 customer care? They would be best placed to give a reason, a timeframe for a fix and a refund for the extra text charges. All networks have problems from time to time. If this is the first issue you have had with them maybe see how they resolve it before you switch...

What Bodily Secretions can DNA be extracted from?

I think that is just if the victim scratched them, so there would be skin cells under their fingernails. Also, I think you can only get DNA from a hair if the skin tag at the root is still attached.

What Bodily Secretions can DNA be extracted from?

According to CSI last night, no, unless there are some skin cells mixed in with it.

Drying clothes when it is bucketing rain

That is a great idea, I never would have thought of it myself.

Civil Service - AO competition - Irish Exam

I have stage 2 of the Civil Service AO competition coming up and there is an optional Irish exam. Does anyone know what level of Irish is required for the exam? Is the exam worth doing? Would it work against me if I sat the exam but didn't reach the required standard?

ericsson mobile 2 months old, broken but get no help?

Not really, no. They can usually back up their claims of liquid damage with a picture showing damge to the inside of the phone. If you really don't believe them ask for this proof, or at least a technician's report. Once they have this you have very little chance of getting anything out of...

Meteor - offer of a lifetime?

And I am on the Anytime original plan, which means my Meteor to Meteor calls are only 9c a min all the time! Its all down to your usage though, the new plans could be very good value to some people (I believe there is a free meteor to meteor calls and texts option as well). The thing to...

    Which restaurants do Christmas lunch?

I have to agree on the M&S idea. We did it a couple of years ago and the food was lovely. Veg is all pre washed and peeled, turkey & ham ready to throw in the oven. It took all the hassle out of Christmas dinner. It was obviously more expensive than doing it yourself, but well worth it IMO.

    What colour kitchen appliances?

It was a joke. Of course pink appliances would look wonderful. http://lovelythings.typepad.co.uk/lovely_things/2006/06/pink_kitchen_ap.html

    What colour kitchen appliances?

I don't think I have ever seen pink kitchen appliances but they would look odd with any kitchen IMO.
