What a match

All Ireland Ladies Football Final, Galway V Kerry. What a game! Not a single dive, terrific football, excellent skills, fast, sporting, electrifying and warm hearted human efforts. It was a pity that one team had to lose. The occasion was brilliant with plenty of colour, good humoured cheering and mouth watering support.

I do GAA umpiring and was I glad I was not to be an umpire at the Galway goal line within a few seconds of full-time today. A Kerry goal was disallowed which would have won them the game but didn't. I can think of reasons why the goal should have been allowed and reasons why the goal should be disallowed. The whole game came down to that one second of play, literally.

The game was excellent throughout and made those looking on to think and admire the skills of the players.

Yes , well done to Galway on a great win over Kerry. Also Roscommon on a commanding win over Fermanagh....and to Antrim on a last minute point to beat my beloved Carlow .....

I can think of reasons why the goal should have been allowed and reasons why the goal should be disallowed.
I watched it live (in Galway!!) and my immediate impression was that there was a Kerry player in the "square" before the ball - LGFA "offside" infringement, therefore a free out. The various replays showed me nothing to alter my first thoughts. The officials got it right but if the goal had been allowed, Galway would have lost by an own goal. How cruel would that have been after a fine team performance?

Congratulations Galway LGFA, after 22 years, an All Ireland is yours.

The West's awake!

I saw on the telly that ár Uachtarán agus ár Taoiseach were at the Senior match, in company with ADC, etc as well as the head of the LGFA, entirely fitting of course at the All Ireland Finals of one of our national team sports, but does anyone know if they were there for all three matches? If they were, that was some dedication over a bank holiday week-end, while the rest of us got to take time out with family and friends. I suppose its easy to say that it comes with the jobs; some of the unnoticed work they have to do.

Fair play to her. Was that an invitation from Ceomhaltas, the NI Government or both? I missed a bunch of news broadcasts with travel and the weekend that was in it.

There is now a strong possibility of a Galway ladies double on the cards....the only problem with that , as we speak is .............Cork.

It's a very hard one to call but if I had to ,I will go for Galway , just, and complete their double...
Antrim are also on for a double this weekend as their ladies football team won last week too..

My daughter, her husband and their kids together with a neighbouring family sailed to France yesterday for the holliers. First things in the boots of the cars were camáns, geansaís, practice sliotars, hats, flags, teddies, all coloured maroon and white. France won't know what hit it :) I'm hoping Galway can pull it off, but it could be very close. My son-in-law helps with a couple of local underage teams. The club has 5 or 6 on the senior panel, so Gaillimh Abú for the tourists!

Well done to a fantastic Cork with a great win over an also fantastic Galway...Two great teams.
Also well done to Armagh on beating Cavan. And the ladies Double for Antrim on a great win over Laoise...

Over the whole game (everything considered) Galway were marginally the better team and nobody would have begrudged them if they won. But, some minor errors at crucial times by Galway cost them. Cork won't mind that and with a little tweeking Galway could be winners each year for years to come. That's my honest appraisal.

Congratulations to Cork on their win, 2 out of the last 3 is very good; a quality side. They made the most of the opportunities presented to them, unlike Galway whose wides tally ultimately cost them dearly. A good game between two evenly matched sides, a great ad for camogie, as were the other two matches.

It was wonderful to see the women from counties where the big ball games dominate show immaculate skills with camán and sliotar, and Antrim are the Intermediate champions for the 31st time. 33,400 in Croker yesterday, which isn't a bad turnout I suppose. Do we know how many tuned in to Marty & co? Anyway that number is +11 for my contingent en France, who almost missed the match with watches and devices set to local rather than Croker time. You do your best bringing them up, but sometimes they'll let you down avec un bang! :)

Congratulations to Cork - and the keyboard didn't go on fire at that bit.

It looks like a lot of bar stools will be vacated as Manchester United face Leeds United in a meaningless friendly at a sold out Croke Park with black market tickets selling at inflated prices.
A pity that such fans don’t support League of Ireland teams

What a great little country we are .....to be able to compete with the worlds best and bring home plenty of medals....,.in most sports..
