Key Post Step by step guide to applying for UK State Pension

Hi - I hope this question is seen as specific to this thread.

May I ask please.......

between Step 7 Pay the outstanding NICS and Step 8 Wait a few weeks......

is there a Step7a say where you have to tell them at the same time what years the payment relates to and how best to do that?

Thanks in advance.

No harm in doing this. Each time I've made a payment I've rung them a week later to confirm they received the funds and to tell them how to allocate it.

The number I've used is 00441912037010. Typically 50 minutes on hold for a 50 seconds conversation, but worth it!

Hi and apologies if this has been covered already. My wife has 8 years uk state pension from the 80s/90s. She returned to Ireland in 93 and has been resident here since. However she didn’t take up formal employment after leaving the UK as she became a full time mum and carer since. She applied online and just this week received a letter from HMRC saying she could buy back years from 2006 to 2025 but at the class 3 rate. She has until 21st July to pay.

My question is why is she being charged the more expensive class 3 rates?
Also
Should she pay the class 3 rate before the deadline or should she appeal and try to get moved over to Class 2?

She’s being charged class 3 as she wasn’t in paid employment since then.

What would her grounds for appeal be?

Hi
I am having trouble getting a HMRC texted access code to log in online. It worked 1st July but not now. Anyone else with the same problem. Would it have anything to do with the new Irish law around spam texts etc
Spider.

should she appeal and try to get moved over to Class 2
I'd almost always say it's worth an appeal, but if you can't establish employment you won't get Class 2. And as you say, it's still a good deal, if not as sweet.

I'd almost always say it's worth an appeal,
I,d 2nd that.
I reapplied online on April 4th. Just got letter confirming I am now eligible to buy back as far as 2006/2007 at class 2.
Except for one year where I was unemployed for 4 weeks and that is 48 weeks at class 2 and 4 weeks at class 3.
Letter says have to make payment within 31 days of date letter sent out on 30th June.
Now to look thru previous threads on how to pay via Revolut

Step 7 paying from a sterling bank account

If you have Revolut Account you can pay in Sterling from it.
If you use Wise or some other FX service, you can pay in Sterling.

Sort Code: 08 32 20
Account number: 12001004
Account name: HMRC NIC Receipts
I'm about to pay via my Revolut and had set up the payee as Paying from an overseas bank account
account number (IBAN) - GB49 BARC 2020 4830 9447 93
Business Identifier Code (BIC) - BARCGB22
account name - HMRC NIC receipts

Was just about to press pay when I noticed that this post recommends using the
Paying from a UK bank account
sort code - 08 32 20
account number - 12001004
account name - HMRC NIC Receipts.
Just to be sure to be sure, Could someone please confirm which account details I should pay to please

I paid from my Revolut sterling account, which is the equivalent of as UK bank account using :

Sort code - 08 32 20
account number - 12001004
account name - HMRC NIC Receipts.

and don't forget the 18 character reference number:

"9 digit National insurance number" + "IC" + "7 characters for 6 Chars of Surname + 1 char of first Initial "

> If you either live abroad or live in the UK but are paying for a period when you worked abroad,
> you need to use a different reference number.
> Use your National Insurance number followed by ‘IC’, your surname then your initial.
> If your bank limits you to a certain number of characters, you should use your National Insurance
> number followed by ‘IC’ and as much of your surname as possible.
> Example
> If your name is Anne Jones, you’d write the reference as QQ123456AICJONESA
