ROS / MyEnquiries – anyone seeing serious delays?

Thanks @Corola, I wasn't aware that there was a specific figure.

I see it here now:

How to settle underpayments

Where you have an underpayment of Income Tax or USC of less than €6,000, you will have the option to:
  • pay your liability partially or in full through the ‘Payment/Repayments’ card in myAccount
  • or
  • have the full or remaining liability collected, interest free, by reducing your future tax credits from 2025 over a maximum period of four years.
For underpayments in excess of €6,000, a notice will issue setting out the amount owed.

Frustrating part is that when it comes to dealing with Revenue, the supposed "rules" always seems to go one direction. Revenue will envoke the customer charter when it suits them but completely ignore it when it doesn't - or just update the charter and remove certain sections that dont suit them.

For example, for as long as I remember, the 20 day working day response time was standard in the customer service charter. Last year Revenue quietly removed the 20 days from the cusomter service charter and now we have these Service Delivery Reports which currently dont make sense based on the number of enquiries answered versus received. Now pratcitioners cant invoke the 20 days working day rule when complaining to Revenue.

At 4 weeks for a relatively straigtforward tax return, pension contribution, wfh and a few medical items.

Is this normal now? I thought the rush time was close to deadline day and I would get a similar return back within two weeks.

In my experience in recent years you're lucky if you get ANY response at all to even straightforward queries on MyEnquiries.

I was contacted through myRevenue about a month after I submitted ours return (submitted 5th of January), they were asking for documents showing the tax already paid on dividends. Provided those and in 48 hours I got the Statement of Liability and the refund 48 hours later.

Lucky you, I'm still waiting since the 22 of January for them to process my immediate answer to their inquire about EU interest for my return dated 05 January.

I still don't understand why they want documents for the EU interest, giving how they are suposed to get all of this electronic from the other countries tax authorities.

Most revenue staff WFH 4 days per week - contrast this with exceptional speed of the passport office with a high office presence.
Hard not to see a correlation

From what I can see, the online application process/photo checking and automation in issuing passports has had a massive impact in the turnaround speed on passport applications. Having less for the staff to do has spend things up.

In relation to the OP, I too have a Revenue query going back to early January (thread here), but since I was issued with a balancing payment related to 2021, I'm happy with them to come back to me on it.

Was there ever an explanation as to why Revenue phone lines never fully re-opened post covid? They close at 1:30pm for the day now, it used to be 4pm? The whole thing just feels like a controlled decline while they outsource queries to tax agents and AI bots that just go around in a loop.

I also have queries sat there for months with no replies. I prefer to have written records for matters that might require proof or a revisit, so tend to avoid phone calls. Parent needs a statement of liability in order to apply for a grant and despite submitting early Jan (and owing tax), it still has not been issued. Revenue seem to have given up completely.

Waiting on a statment of liability for 2025 since early January and Revenue Online said it was being processed and would be available shortly.
Still waiting and now nearing the middle of March so I phoned them today and after several recorded 'pieces of information' I was told ( by bot) that they were receiving a huge number of calls and to look my query up online!.... then the call was ended abruptly so I'm stuck in a vortex, going nowhere quickly...or slowly! I was always full of praise for Revenue: if they owed you a euro,it was promptly sent and likewise if you owed them a euro it was requested. They were without doubt the most efficient government dept - how the mighty have fallen in such a short space of time!

I was under the impression there was a push to get people to engage with Revenue on doing a tax response.

The long response would put people off.

I requested a choice of how tax credits and bands were to be split between my partner and I. This was done through ROS using the on line request box.

In previous years this was done by Revenue after a few days.
This year it took about 1 month to be completed.

The Revenue PAYE phoneline 017383636 have an automated message that "call volumes are exceptionally high an we are unable to take your call at this time" and then refers you to on MyAccount which is also too busy to reply to messages apparantley.

This seems like a controlled decline in accessability at this point.

More than six weeks waiting for Statement of Liability after a simple 2025 tax return. Never took this long before.
