ROS / MyEnquiries – anyone seeing serious delays?

You think that is bad, I'm now waiting over 2 months for them to process my return because of an EU Deposit

02 January return filed

22 January 19:49 National PAYE Branch asks for EU deposits provide the relevant documentation showing the Deposit income received along with any foreign tax that may have been withheld. I put all that into the online form when I did the return by the way.

22 January 20:20 I provide the relevant details

Nothing, silence from Revenue.

My parent also finally received their statement of liability today having submitted to Revenue early Jan. Was nearly a 3 month wait.

Found out my wife was entitled to Flat Rate Expenses for her job. Submitted these for 2021-2025 in December.

Got a message from Revenue near the end of January saying we were selected for Level 1 Compliance Intervention (Audit) for 2021-2025 and need to provide documentation within a 10 day deadline. Asked to provide medical receipts, tuition fee documentation and back up for Employing a Carer- which we dont employ. Despite the tight turn around, managed to get everything submitted. (30th of Jan)

Got notification on the 5th of March that "Your Health Expenses have been amended in accordance with allowable receipts received and your refund is being allowed in part."

No further clarification. I presume this means one or more of our medical receipts have been disallowed but I cant understand how Revenue can make this decision without consulting us. How do they know the receipts they disallowed weren't paid in full or in part by our insurer and included in our total figure for insurance refunds?

I cant understand how Revenue can unilaterally make this decision without first consulting you to get the background on any receipt they are thinking of disallowing. It seems there is no right of reply, no right of appeal, or no education or clarification provided for future submissions.

Anyway, I have sent repeated messages on MyEnquires and have got no response. I've tried to call their phone number dozens of times only to get the auto message that hangs up on you. On two occasions I managed to get through, only to be told the people on the phones dont work in the Compliance Department so cant really answer my queries.

Our FREs have still not be paid out for these years and it's the 8th of April.

The whole thing has become a shambles. As someone said, Revenue used to be the most user friendly, efficient branch of government- its now a total joke. I've actually been trying to call them or message them on MyEnquiries since mid-November with other queries and have gotten no response or the auto hang up. Farce!!

Hi all,

Sent my Statement of Liability for 2025 on January 29th. Rang today to be told that someone is looking at it.

Not a particularly complex one - claiming tax back on pension contributions, medical bills etc.

Best,

It's very bad. I have a fairly simple PRSI related query in with my Enquiries but reading these reports it looks like I am in for a looong wait. The comparison with the German system couldn't be more stark. My local tax office has public opening hours but better than that, a specific person in that office is responsible for our income tax returns. She is very pleasant on the phone and can be reached pretty much any time during the listed hours. It's usually much easier to discuss a nuanced issue on the phone rather than engage in an email back and forth. The confirmation of whatever was discussed then comes out in writing by snail mail a couple of days later. I know there is an administrative cost to such high levels of service that are ultimately borne by the taxpayer but there has to be a happy medium somewhere. Waiting months for a response and having no way to clear things up by phone is just not good enough.

Waited 3 months for a straight forward issue of SoL for 2025 and applied for tuition & health expenses).Phoned after 2 months.Phone rang out! Phoned again the following week.Got to speak with a very helpful person who told me my query was sorted and that I was to get a 'nice' refund and that they would internally message the person dealing with it to push it on (as I told the agent I had bills etc.Agent said they knew the story etc, very pleasant.) nothing doing so after a few days so emailed again! Got an email from somebody else in ROS the week after - short and abrupt saying I wasnt getting any refund and didnt know who gave me the 'other' message and that I hadnt paid enough tax( I wonder what all the deductions coming out of every payslip are?)...and that I actually 'owed' some tax or rather USC I'm a PAYE person with nothing extra.! I'm shocked to say the least as to how the most efficient Gov Dept has now become the complete opposite, not to mention the 'unfriendly nature of the correspondance'! and the mess up of my 'refund' which is not a refund now but an 'owe'! I have not emailed/phoned them back yet as I'm in shock....

They just turned my Form 11 around in one day. Maybe they have caught up, but I suspect what is more likely is that the delay is only for the ones they select (at random?) for further inspection.

It's now over a month later and I still haven't heard anything back. Tried to call them earlier, got the auto hang up again. I'm now going to email Niall Cody. It's been pretty much 5 months since we submitted our returns.

In case it's helpful info, i posted my paper Form 12 on 6th March, and got a message on MyEnquiries on 9th May saying all was completed and SOL would issue shortly. The SOL was then available the following day. If i've got my maths right that's around 9 weeks from submission to completion which seems consistent with some other recent responses above.

Finally got sorted on May 8th after submitting my SOL on January 29th. It might have been that they wanted to check the figures for my pension payments, but they were in line with previous years.

Just got an e-mail "Revenue has sent you a Statement of Liability" - nothing when I check account. Infact only last month they advised me I was owed from 2024 and I completed tax return and got a small amount back into my bank account.
This just a general error??
