RIP Thread for Notable People

Sad to report that Ronnie Delaney, 1500m Olympic gold medalist, had died this evening. Just a few days after his 91st birthday.

He had been unwell for a few months.

A really great person - one of life's gentlemen.

May he rest in peace.

Prolific author Len Deighton has died aged 97.
Most famous as the author of the Ipcress File which introduced the character of (unnamed in the books) Harry Palmer. Michael Caine played Palmer in the 1965 movie adaptation of the Ipress File and in two further film adaptations.

I can recall borrowing some of his books from my local library as a teenager, alternative history novel SS-GB (subsequently adapted into a BBC miniseries) and some non fiction works on WWII e.g. Blitzkrieg.

Chip Taylor has died aged 86 , he composed the immortal “ Wild thing “ and the slightly less rebellious “ Angel of the morning “ !
His brother is Jon Voight , his father Elmer played in the 1928 & 1929 US Golf Open.
He became a professional gambler and was banned by Casinos as he was so successful, Meyer Lansky took his bets and made millions himself by following Chip’s bets .

Zoologist and TV presenter Desmond Morris has been remembered for his "lifetime of exploration, curiosity, and creativity" after his death at 98.
The TV star, who hosted the popular show Zoo Time, rose to fame in 1967 when his book The Naked Ape became an international bestseller...
During his tenure as a broadcaster, he hosted BBC documentaries including Manwatching (1977), TV and Natural History (1986), and The Human Animal (1994).

I remember reading some of his books and they were thought-provoking although not sure if all the ideas stuck. BBC Radio 4 just aired a retrospective on Morris as part of their Archive on 4 series, it mentioned that he was living in Dublin as he has family based here.
