RIP Thread for Notable People

RIP Chris Rea, the anti-showbiz pop-star, blues-man, family man who declined the potential big money of US touring and chart scene to stay with family. Wonderful voice, great musician, song-writer, race-driver, film-score composer, pit-crew member with Jordan GP, visual artist, charity-worker and contributor. From the first time I heard him, there was a hook, an attraction about him and his music. When I heard about his Irish Mammy it all made sense to me. At least one of his songs will resonate forever with Irish audiences at this time of year especially.

The Cure's bass-player, guitarist and keyboard player Perry Bamonte has died aged 65. Part of their road crew through the 80's, he joined them as a full member and at various stages he was part of their ever-changing line-up and was a member during their last tour. His death was announced yesterday Dec 26th. A huge loss to popular music. RIP Perry.

John Robertson , Nottingham Forest and Scotland winger died on Christmas day.
Despite an appalling diet and a fondness for pints and cigarettes he was an absolute genius of a player.
He won two European cups with Forest.scoring in one and assisting the winning goal in the other.
Brian Clough’s favourite player.
RIP Robbo

Martin Chivers - frequently appears on Big Match Revisited reruns from the 1970s on ITV4, sporting a then unusual tan. RIP.

Grandfather of Scottish Rugby Union U20 International Reuben Logan, a monster of a young fellah, who is the son of former Scotland wing Kenny Logan, capped 70 times, and BBC Sport presenter Gabby. RIP Terry

Terry Yorath came very close to getting Wales into Euro 92 and World Cup 94, but in crunch final home game v Romania in 1993 a missed penalty cost them dearly. This was a team with a wealth of attacking talent (Rush, Giggs, Hughes, Speed, Saunders) but less resources at the back. His contract wasn't renewed, subsequent managers didn't come close to matching his results and the late 90s were a dark time for the Welsh national team.

RIP Seán Ó Sé, of "tá an puc ar buile" fame

"The death has occurred of renowned Cork singer, educator and raconteur Seán Ó Sé, who has died three days shy of his 90th birthday.

He was a native of Ballylickey, which he described as “three miles outside Bantry to the west, on the Glengarrif Road, the most easterly inlet in Bantry Bay”.
"

RIP a Shéain.

as his cartoons were so specific to life in corporate IT
He worked in IT / telecoms for years, and I remember back in telecoms in the '90s people used to send him examples of mismanagement in the hopes he'd include them.
