Currently on 18% discount.

Renewal coming up and 16% is being offered 31.30c per unit including vat, if you are a new customer you get 20% which is 29.81c

Going to shop around but the account is in joint names, can I cancel after my renewal date and then set it up in a single name?

I've been with Electric Ireland for easily over 20 years, I really don't want to leave but this is annoying me!

I suspect that the MPRN is the key piece of info here. And you won't be able to change that if you register under a new name, alas.

The lady on the phone said I couldn't do this however, Google AI search is saying that it can be done but I guess it'll be nice to have this verified by a human.

My contract expires on the 10th so the plan is to basically set up a new account on the 11th in just my husband's name and see what happens.

Normally I kind of let these things slide but I've just gotten to the point now where I'm really sick of being shafted!

Switching takes about 10 mins on line and Energia and SSE have rates very similar to the lower rate you've quoted above.

I'm not near a computer today so tomorrow morning I'll be going online to research all of the other providers and I'll check those two out.

Of course if I moved somebody else the rates will probably just go up, are we at that stage where we just need to grin and bear it?

Last December I signed up and got 24% with EI as a new customer so I got 6% more than you
If you feel that they're "shafting" you, why are you staying with them, most people check who is the cheapest at renewal and move

You could be losing out because of your loyalty/inertia.

Anyone in your situation (assuming that they have a smart meter) should download their smart meter data and upload it to the likes of www.energypal.ie, www.kilowatt.ie, www.bonkers.ie and/or www.switcher.ie to see what the best provider and tariff is for their actual historical usage.

If you don't shop around then you are likely to be paying over the odds.

I do this for house insurance car insurance typically however when it comes to Energy Services I have tended to stick with Electric Ireland, mainly because they helped me out massively when I had to move house unexpectedly due to marriage breakdown and had an equaliser bill to be settled.

Their help at a time like that always stuck with me but I guess well, err it's time for us to break up.

Figured out how to download all the data and started with the energy pal site, the Electric Ireland plan is still coming in at the best 24hr unit rate plan based on the info I have supplied.

The majority of my energy usage is during the day time as I WFH so a time of use tariff is no good to me as all the washing / dishwasher / dehumidifier and cooking (this changes based on husband shift to more peak times every 2 weeks of the month) is done from about 9am until lunchtime so the cheapest electricity during that time is what I need.

Good website all the same very informative. All the more reason to work hard to clear existing loan and make way for the solar project.

Edit also spotted new customers on EI get 18% for the dual fuel bundles which is what I have currently - the lady on the phone incorrectly quoted me 20% which is for electricity only.

When it was the ESB as one unit I always recommended them for their excellent customer service. Electric Ireland has gone downhill over the last number of years and their call centre can leave a lot to be desired.

If you do stick with El Irl don't forget to avail of the SuperValue/Electric Ireland offer because as you have both electricity and gas you can avail of €60 over the year.

Also sign up for the ESB Networks 'Is this a good time' initiative. I think at the last count I had collected a few hundred over the last few years for very little work.

Sept last year got 26% discount and recently they sent me out a 24% online discount. Click a button to renew.

I note that Energia haven't announced anything since last March
Headline rates in Ireland mean that Ireland comes top of the charts for prices.

It also allows suppliers vary prices without any "announcement" as they change their discounts for renewals and new customers.

This year energia were as high as 39% at the end of February to a low of 24% in June and currently 30%.

At 29.8c day rate, you are paying about the average European electricity rate.

Gas prices have jumped substantially in the last 2 weeks, so there may be rare hikes on the horizon

Have received the same offer but as well as being low for loyalty, its also variable rate, so almost means nothing.
I looked up whether any continue to have a fixed rate and thought flogas did , but their fine print also says variable, and only 18.5 export.
Are there any fixed rate non smart meter providers left?

I have a solution to my problem, the day after my contract expires just going to take out a new account in the name of my tenant with my bank and contact info.
Then we can do a cooling off within 14 days and then I can take out a new account - or leave in his name since I will have all the access to the account.
EI confirmed this can be done the day after my contract goes onto their value reward plan without the need to close the account.
The key will be to ensure it's not in joint names so we can swap between us to be new customers.

Now AA membership renewal are the next people on my hitlist.
