I suspect it may turn out to be the thin end of the wedge. If it applied to Tubbs, why wouldn’t it apply to others.Presumably he knew exactly what he was getting. Very odd that he saw his money being underreported in the media by 50k a year and stayed quiet as a mouse.
He knew what the deal was. If I was him I’d keep schtum too but he knew what was going on.He seems to be getting it in the neck for poor governance by his employer. Seems a bit unfair.
........he knew what was going on.
He needs to come out and say I see now I should have flagged the discrepancy between what was declared by RTE and what was in my RTE contract remuneration.
But from his statement yesterday, he seems to be as surprised by all this as the next man......he must only have found out very recently.
“Like many people, I’m surprised by the announcements made in RTÉ’s statement today regarding the errors in the reporting of its accounts. It is unfortunate that these errors are in relation to how RTÉ have reported payments made to me but I just want to be clear: this is a matter for RTÉ and I have no involvement in RTÉ’s internal accounting treatment or RTÉ’s public declarations in connection with such payments. Obviously, I’m disappointed to be at the centre of this story but unfortunately, I can’t shed any light on why RTÉ treated these payments in the way that they did, nor can I answer for their mistakes in this regard.”
The Late Late Toy show appeal will be happy to help him out of his predicament I'm sure! And you believe everything you read in a press release?
He didn't notice that what was declared as his remuneration in his RTE contract didn't match what RTE declared in its public statement? This wasn't money going from the sponsor to Tubridy. It was in his contract with RTE which is why RTE kept paying it even though the sponsor pulled out. It was part of RTE remuneration.
We're not talking a few euros.
That public statement of presenter pay is a news story every year. It beggars belief that Tubridy didn't pay attention to it and wasn't aware of the discrepancy.
He has no credibility on any future matters on TV or radio if he persists in this line.
But if it's a sum that he didn't even notice the discrepancy, it will be no hardship to him to donate it to charity.
He has a choice - the money or his career for the forseeable future.
Fair question. Not always, I suppose. But I think Tubs is a man of integrity. And you believe everything you read in a press release?
Ah come on - are people now not entitled to go on holiday during holiday season? Her contract is finishing up shortly, I understand - often folk have unused leave that they are actually obliged to take. Why is Dee Forbes on annual leave? She is still director-general and surely was aware of this coming out.
This is a massive issue and she's the boss. She should have come home immediately - any boss would have.Ah come on - are people now not entitled to go on holiday during holiday season? It's a massive issue that occurred on her watch. She would have known the report was due soon. I don't think it's a coincidence she disappears when it was due to be published.Fair question. Not always, I suppose. But I think Tubs is a man of integrity.

At this stage Revenue need to go in. There's significant sums at stake here.
I have seen no details that assure me all has been done here above board. RTE were pulling a stroke - to what end? They were concealing something, the only question is what. Tax avoidance? Making it look like Tubridy was paid less than he was while lying to their own staff about lack of money? Both?I have seen no details to support any underpayment of tax?
RTE clambering on board the catastrophic climate change ideological bandwagon
RTE were pulling a stroke.
It will be interesting to see if some of the other posters who disagree with me on poor Tubs will wish to distance themselves from this comment.
I agree RTE was pulling a stroke in the sense of they were claiming that Turbidy's pay-cut was greater than it effectively was. I think it's a bit of a leap to add a second charge that this round-about payment wasn't taxed properly. I have seen no suggestion of that. I understood that RTE is trading at a loss so what tax benefit could even be gained here by RTE?
