Thanks for replying, no this all to do with uk pension. Do they acccept a mix of credited contributions as in child benefit or jobseekrs plus
working in one year to qualify for class 2 payment for buy back.

so say in 2010 you were not working but had 32 credited from jobseekers and 20 from working. so your contributions in total for that year are 52. do hmrc accept the non working credits

Update. So waited 40 minutes to speak with somebody and then got through and as soon as I said good morning, the line went dead!!! Decided then to go on to their gateway app and was delighted to get through on that, they have changed my maiden name into my married name. I have 7 years contributions from working in the UK and can pay back to 2019 as class 2 so 13 years in total. From 2006 to 2019 they have me down as class 3 but the front of the letter which i received says they have decided that I am class 2, so there is a contradiction. went back over chat here and discovered this has happened other people. Like what Danny has said will sent on my prsi record from here showing that I have 52 contributions made up of self employed and working from 2006 to 2019, not sure if child benefit credit goes towards class 2 but will send all on. WIll pay the class 2 for the last six years and hope they will get in contact with me about 2006 to 2029.

I hate calling somebody Dopey but that is the name you used! And no, credited contributions do not count. The only contributions that count are those from employment or self-employment.

I have credited contributions counted for time spent on UK job-seekers allowance. And three full credited years for age 16-18.

Or is this about Irish credits?

Those UK credited contributions are fine but the requirement for eligibility to pay voluntary Class 2 contributions while abroad is that you are in "insured employment or self-employment abroad", that means largely Class A or Class S PRSI in this country.

Thanks everybody for the very useful information to date, it has been a great help.
I posted my form during March 25 via registered post and finally got a response yesterday!

They have informed me I have 3 qualifying years (I only worked partially in the UK during two of those tax years but earned enough to qualify as a full years contribution for those years - I almost didn't bother filling out the form because I hadn't worked full years and thought they wouldn't count, but thankfully they did!!)

They have offered me 6 years at class 2:
19/20,
20/21,
21/22,
22/23,
23/24,
24/25.

If I pay this I will have 6 + 3 = 9 years total contributions.

I know they are chaining the system that you need 10 years residency (I don't have) or 10 years contributions to pay from abroad for new applications:
Changes to vol contributions gov.uk

I presume from the above link I will still be able to make a class 2 contribution after 6 April 26 for current UK tax year 25/26 sometime after 6 April 26 and then for subsequent years be able to make class 3 contributions?

I have the money ready to go for the previous 6 years, just want to sense check my understanding as I'd hate to pay the money and be stuck with 9 years and the inability to reach 10 after the rules changed!

Thanks Bill

Thanks Danny, I know it's all within the rules and they are now tightening it up, but it's crazy that they have allowed this for so long!

HI Bill
They gave you only 6 years backdated
If you posted your form in March 25, HMRC should have received it by the 5th April 25 deadline and you may also be eligible for 2006-2019
2006-2019 may be at Class 2,while everything after April 2026 will be at the more expensive Class 3
This was posted in early March 25

Thanks Giggs, but I actually only started working in the UK in 2016 so am probably not entitled to anything before that? I moved there a few years before that but would have a hard time proving it as I have no documentation proving this.

Just wanted to say thanks to all people in this thread, (especially DannyBoyD) for the good advice.
Because of the help and tips in this thread I`m now sorted and up to date with my contributions. I just checked online and everything has gone through and I will receive a full pension at retirement age.
Thanks guys.

Hi All,
My wife (2009-2022) and I (2011-2022) both worked in the UK for the periods shown. We each sent a CF83 form, with a covering letter and ID in March 2025. In addition, we both also requested a "Call back" on the Gov website before the April '25 deadline. Neither of us have been able to setup the Government Gateway as we are unable to pass the online ID check for some unknown reason!

We either had a call answered or received a call back at some stage from HMRC. Spoke to a lovely chap who was very helpful and gladly spoke to both of us on the same call. If I recall correctly, he said there wasn't much we needed to do at that stage, and that he would write to us. In June 2025, we each received a letter a "Your State Pension Forecast" from the Dept. for Work & Pensions.

On my letter it states "Your estimate up to 5 April 2025 is £107.58 a week, Your forecast if you contribute for another 19years before 5 April 2052 is £203.25 a week". The letter doesn't provide any further detail on the Voluntary Contributions (Class 2 / Class 3) to be made, which leads me to believe this letter might only be as a result of the phonecall received, rather than the CF83 submitted? Is there anyway to check they have received my CF83? Any ideas how to clear security for the Government Gateway? We also moved house, so will need to update the address details HMRC hold for us too if anyone has any suggestions?

Regards,
NewUser2026

Did you send by recorded delivery?

Write (or ring) and ask.

Follow the instructions on the Key Post (several million pages back).

Ring & then write confirmation letter.
