Taking need for consent too far

Brenda Power of the Sindo makes a point that has generally been missed - the Ad is deeply ageist. It portrays the grandparents as repulsive oldies who no adolescent wouldn't want anywhere near them.

These screenshots give a good idea of what the 20-second advertisement is actually like. The grandparents look perfectly normal: happy, healthy, and affectionate. No monocles, dentures, wheelchairs, or other stereotypes. Despite some of the claims, they're not being portrayed as decrepit ogres.

In fact, the very first thing we see is a child delighted to meet their grandparents, enthusiastically greeting and hugging them.

Then we see a teenager who is not so keen. We have two children with two different preferences. One welcomes the affection, while the other is uncomfortable. That's really all there is to it. There's some upbeat music, no screaming, no mention of anything sexual, and just a small DRCC logo at the end. It's tame stuff.

It's really weird that so many people think children should put up with unwanted physical contact to keep adults happy.
