Heatwave!

then it will have a Summer Bypass function which stops pre-heating the incoming air.
The up side is that if it's cool at night it takes longer for the house to heat up in the morning sun.
But is that not the issue during a heatwave, the day time air is hotter than normal and the night-time heat is not dropping enough to allow the houses to cool.
Yesterday inside my house hit a peak of 26 while now at the moment it's 22, 26 is borderline getting a bit hot for me while 22 during the summer is perfect

It's still cooler at night. Last night it was 14 degrees. Therefore if you want to keep your house cool during the day then open the windows at night then close them and close the blinds/curtains in the morning to trap cold air in the house and block out the sun. If you do that the the higher your BER rating the longer it stays cool. This isn't contentious, it's just physics.

Agreed but were not in a heatwave just yet which is what I'm referring to, when the night time temperatures stay warm and muggy!!
Yep, then we're screwed.

Buy a Dyson fan (they really are worth it) and fill a 2 litre plastic drink bottle with water and freeze it. Then place it in front of the fan at night to help cool your room. That does make a difference.

Seriously warm in my crib right now (6.30pm.) Will likely be sleeping on the kitchen floor tonight - the cold tiles offer a bit of respite from the heat.

(Or more likely - not sleeping much at all!)

Don't know where you guys are but here in Blackrock it's just nice, Goldilocks even.
Had doors and windows front and back open all day yesterday with a gentle breeze flowing through and the nest never went above 25
Currently 22 as I'm eating my breakfast after a good night's sleep

I think it will be more pleasant in this heatwave than previous one, less humidity and if you are near eastern or southern coasts there will be a breeze to freshen things up. Also, as we move away from the longest day of the year, slight reduction in hours of sunshine.

It's definitely a bit cooler nearer the sea but higher temperatures a few miles inland. (I'm in Cabinteely.)

I'm surprised there hasn't been more wildfires given how dry it's been. Would have expected to see the smoke plumes rising from places like Howth, Killiney and the Dublin/Wicklow mountains by now.

Lets count ourselves lucky that we're only dealing with a minor spike in the temperatures at the moment

Just Whatsapping friends in Almeria where I used to spend my winters cycling and apart from the scorching temps and sleepless night
There now for the second year enduring wildfires, Last year the had to get a water bomb dropped to save their house and property
and now after getting all the damage fixed their facing another wildfire this week coming from the other direction
Worrying times for lots of people on the continent during their what seem like monthly heatwaves

High temperature warning issued for most of the country:

Six week hosepipe ban starting at end of week for Greater Dublin area:

Uisce Éireann has issued a six-week hosepipe ban for six areas around the country to protect water supplies. The water conservation order is for Dublin, south Tipperary, parts of Kildare, Meath, Wexford and Wicklow. It has been issued due to the "exceptionally warm and dry weather". The ban begins shortly after midnight on Thursday, and will remain in place until 26 August.

Must break the bad news to the Petunias on the patio but they'll be pleased to know I can use my power-shower, dishwasher, washing machine etc with abandon There'll be a lot of clean cars on the roads before Thursday.

(Wonder how much water they'd save if all of those Re-Turn bottles and cans didn't have to be rinsed?)

Homeowners will be able to report neighbours or anyone they see breaking the “hosepipe ban” as a water conservation order comes into force on Thursday for six counties for six weeks.

Uisce Éireann has confirmed that the order will be in place for Dublin and south Tipperary – as well as parts of Kildare, Meath, Wexford and Wicklow – until the end of Wednesday, August 26.

The order bans hosepipes for watering gardens, cleaning cars and filling paddling pools and is being introduced to “safeguard public water supplies for essential purposes following a period of exceptionally warm and dry weather”.

You can still use a watering can.
Dishwashers and washing machines, newer ones, use very little water. The power shower is a problem. I recommend a sheep dip.

If only the shower water could be diverted for garden use.... an outdoor shower might work outside the Pale :)
