Dyson Cordless vacuum

See my previouos post on page 1 of this thread about advice from salesman on these hoovers some of which are very expensive these days. I mentioned that 2 batteries might be needed to do whole house and they can work out costing a lot more.
I am happy that my old Nilfisk is still in use
Me too. Mine (silver cylinder one maybe called G80/G90) has had the cable repaired a few times but still keeps on goin many moons later. Have tried plenty of other hoovers and they were no where near as good.

I did, but that was two years ago and a Dyson V8, we're now on V15 so I was wondering if they have improved over the two years
The battery on the V11 that I was thinking of is 60 mins which is more than enough time for a few run arounds of hoovering
I don't have any carpets only a few rugs and a part time cat so I'm thinking these cordless vacuums would have more then enough suction for my needs but you're right about the price of Dyson's and it's very off putting so maybe I'll just Johnny Logan it till next year and see what's changed and on offer
Or take @Jazz01 up on their offer but there might be T&C's attached that I might not be comfortable with ;)

I think they still have them available for testing in the Harvey Norman stores or were when I was there a while ago. Maybe you could try one out there. Bring in a bag of dust with you and see if you get thrown out :D I was shocked at the price of both the Dyson and Miele models and wasn't particularly impressed.

I would never buy a Dyson Vacuum again. I was warned at the time not to buy one but said to myself but the reviews were great so the person must be wrong. They were right. At the outset it was brilliant (out of the box) over a few months it ended up pushing dirt around the floor. And yes i did clean it and maintain it etc. etc. took more maintenance then a child. In summary AVOID.

I had a Dyson v10 for a few years. Initially it was great. I cleaned the filter regularly etc. I like that it was lighter than any other options.

Then my idiot son used it to clean up a bag of flour. Not a full bag… maybe 150g… it killed it. I took it apart, removed all the flour and lots of other impacted dust. A surprisingly large part of the innards were clogged and coated with dust, not just flour. Scrubbed and cleaned every section, put it back together and 5 minutes later it clogged up again. Repeated the process, twice, worked for a wee while… weeks not months, clogged up again.

I gave up

Bought a shark. It’s heavier but 3 years on and it’s no problem.

In fairness to Dyson the manual does make a specific reference to vacuuming flour
And if you do a google search it's generally advised, due to the properties of flour, you should use a dust pan and brush first before vacuuming
otherwise you run the risk of destroying the inner workings of your cordless vacuum

For me, I want one, they've got plenty of suction for my needs and more then enough battery time but it all comes down to price
And this year, like last year, I just can't decide if their worth the huge price been asked even on discount

Looks like you have just dug a deeper grave for him :D

RTE reviews three vacuum cleaners for you
Yes, saw that this morning, the author seems to think there a good vacuum over all as they have the previous Dyson as their regular vacuum
But where I'm having a problem justifying €400 on a V11, €849 for the V16 is off the wall expensive and I doubt many would purchase

It's RTÉ - they think nothing of spending €5K on flipflops...

In fairness that was for 200 pairs of Havainas flip flops for a summer party for corporate clients. So only 25 lids each - a mere snip!

(I still have my pair - pink with a green RTE logo - and the summer barbie was great craic, although I can't really remember the last 4 hours very clearly!)

Back on topic, the Cordless Cyclone Vacuum Cleaner Shaz 22.2 G8 that we purchased in LIDL earlier this year for €70 is superb. We're delighted with it. We particularly like the bright leds on the head which enable vacuuming in the pitch dark - something that has enhanced our night life no end!

I have to agree. I have an older (much, much) DC 08 Animal which has survived 3 Rottweilers and my remaining terrier with tiles and timber floors throughout the house as well as cleaning the insides of a variety of cars. I know it's not cordless but it still works so the Dyson brand gets a big bagless thumbs up in this house-hold.

I have an ancient TITAN wet & dry which was used mainly for cleaning up after doggy accidents in the cars' seats and carpets. My remaining canine is a good traveller so TITAN is now in retirement.

Shame on you, do you not realise that night time vacuuming along with no cutting grass on a Sunday are big no no's in suburbia ;)

My nearest neighbour is 250 metres away. But perhaps I'll try to negoriate a deal with him whereby I'll stop vacuuming at night if he stops spreading slurry!

Okay so I pulled the trigger!!
I took @Sue Ellen advice and went up to Harvey's minus the bag of dust had a go of all the display models
It became quickly apparent to me the one I wanted was the V16 but there was no way I was paying the asking price
So next in line was the V15 which was €550 for the basic model which again was a bit more then I was willing to pay
Armed with all the info I needed I went looking on Adverts and found a little used, under a year old V15 Detect Submarine that was in my price range
It's €899 normally, reduced to €699 in the BF sales and this person sold it to me for €450 which although expensive, I felt was a good price

Only used it once so far and I'm impressed, has no problem with suction and is as good a vacuum as the 20 year old DC19 that it replaces
but time will tell so I'll probably post back again next year after I've have put it though it paces more thoroughly

Yeah the Dyson has a "Fluffy Optic" that does the same thing and I was shocked at how much dust and dirt it illuminates
I only hovered the house a couple of days before and this little light made me think I hadn't hovered in weeks

Okay so after two months of use, I'm impressed with the Dyson to the point where it has exceeded my expectations
It is more then capable of doing its job and equally as good if not better than the DC19 that it's replacing
Depending on suction power which motorised head you use maximum battery life is 70+ minutes,
I run it on "Auto" which is medium suction but increases suction over very dirty areas and that gives me about 45 minutes
which is ample time to do a good hoover including the areas that you might not do on a regular basis

Pros
It's light enough to carry around the house and comes with two motorised heads for carpets/rugs and hard floors
I feel that the motorised heads are what makes the real difference compared to my old Dyson which didn't have them
Battery life on the newer models should be plenty for most people
The led green light is a double edge sword but for the most part it's great at showing you where the dirt is
Hoovering the stairs is now a doddle and makes me think why I waited so long to buy one
It's neat and compact and hanging it on the wall frees up floor space in my hall cubbard, which is a welcome

Cons
While the led green light shows up the dirt it also shows up all the imperfections of my wooden floors and tiles
While the motorised heads clean very well their not very good at getting into certain areas and will leave dust behind
I find it light and easy to use but an older friend of mine, she's 74 and says it would be too heavy for her to use
She bought a Bosch one in Lidl and prefers it as all the weight is a floor level and not in the hand

Price
These are not cheap by any stretch of the imagination with my model having a RRP of €899.99
And can be regularly bought on sale with up to €200 off but even then I think its still over priced
Personally €400 to €500 is where I feel it should be for one off the shelve

And of course as soon as I bought this one he goes and releases the Pencil Vac
