That's great, thanks. They don't make it easy by calling it a contribution when it's not really!

    Public and Private Pension

Hi all. Does anyone have confirmation that the Additional Superannuation Contribution (ASC) doesn't count toward the Revenue annual % limit for tax relief on contributions? The document below just confirms that PRD didn't. I haven't been able to find anything online about it.

Health Insurance Waiting Time on new health insurance policy

This is interesting. So I guess anyone taking out a new policy (i.e. with no cover in previous 13 wks) should ask for this? They are in effect giving twice the length of cover (with exceptions including pre-existing, maternity as mentioned). If only one provider will waive the waiting period...

ptsb cuts mortgage rates - existing customers can now avail of new business rates

Thanks for posting that, Brendan. It looks like some of the <€250K fixed rates are actually increasing for new customers. Currently 3 year fixed rates range from 2.8% to 2.9% for new <€250K mortgages.

Negative rates for small savers in Germany - how long before it gets to Ireland?

I'm wondering if the Banking Levy will have any effect on Irish bank interest rates next year. From my reading, 2019 is the base year for the last year of the levy in 2021 (assuming it's not extended). In 2021 it will charged at 170% x 2019 DIRT collections. So for a bank to offer a rate of...

Any examples of PTSB break fee

Given this you may be better off going for the equivalent 5 year fixed rate @ 3.15%. PTSB currently don't give existing customers access to the low new customer rates. So break fees won't be relevant unless you are switching bank. At the end of your 3-year fix you would roll to a Managed...

Ulster Bank cuts mortgage rate to 2.3% fixed for two years - all LTVs

The 2 and 4 year rates aren't available to customers getting exceptions, so your LTI would need to be <3.5. The 5 year might be your best bet.

Mortgage should I fix or stay on variable

Ah, ok. I was thinking that liquidity premium would be less of a issue for swap rates vs. bond yields. Is it possible to get the 'true' market expectation of future swap or interbank rates?

Mortgage should I fix or stay on variable

Hi Red, just wondering about the 400 estimate. Looking at yesterday's swap rates, the 5 year is about 0.33%. Working out the 2 year forward rate for 3 years time gives about 0.81%. This suggests market rates would have to end up almost 0.5% below current expectation for any breakage fee to apply...

    KeyTrade Feedback

I haven't bought US ETF with them but that tick box does come up when you go to buy them. Someone else might be able to confirm but I don't think they're still taking Irish residents.

    Multiple Full Mortgage Applications?

I applied for full mortgage approval for a house purchase with Ulster Bank on Monday last week. I know it hasn't been long but I'm unable to get any update from them and no valuation has been arranged. I've approval in principle with two other banks. I'm keen to close the sale, so while waiting...

    Rebuilding Ireland-Home Loan Scheme

There's a good thread on boards with info on it here. It seems you can only use the council's mortgage protection insurance and the cost is high - €133/mo. for a e288K 25yr loan. I wonder if you're paying some kind of default insurance for the council... or the scheme is just overpriced. If we...

    Changing from EBS

That's annoying - I imagine it's a system issue as much as anything else. I have AIP for a new mortgage with EBS and was told that although you can't overpay on a fixed rate, it's easy to re-extend the term if you shortened it to increase payments. Not sure I'd trust this remaining the case into...

property managment company directors and conflict of interest

Are the rules posted up in the apartment blocks mentioning this? Was there any response to the letters and were they personalised? i.e. "Dear Mr/Ms X, A commercial vehicle has been parking in your allocated spot no 99. Can you confirm that this is your/your tenant's vehicle and that it is...

    Changing from EBS

Maybe double-check this with them - it says on their website that they allow it: "... EBS provide the option of splitting the loan amount in two, so you can avail of both the variable interest rate on a portion of the loan and a fixed interest rate on the remaining portion of the loan."...

RaboDirect Ireland will be closing in May

Keytrade in Belgium (used to at least) accept Irish customer applications remotely. I just use the trading account. Savings rates are between 0.05% to 0.2%. They are now owned by Crédit Mutuel ARKEA, which has an A rating. However, this is just in line with the rating for the Irish state so the...

RaboDirect Ireland will be closing in May

It's a shame alright - they were the first bank in Ireland to have a decent user-friendly online platform. The basing of the bank levy on DIRT has certainly hurt deposit competition.

    Fixed rates Best Buys

You can calculate this as below for 3 yr fix <90% LTV. Monthly payment is as per ptsb website.
