    Shed options

Our wooden shed has started to rot and needs to be replaced. We are improving the base for it, so hopefully would get longer out of another wooden shed. This one is ten years old. What are the other options and general costs? Steel, block built? What are the pros and cons? It would be a...

Condensation on windows, attempt to fix no good.

Condensation on windows is better than condensation on the walls, in the wardrobes etc. I'd look at reducing the humidity, stop drying clothes indoors, keep lid on pots when cooking and open the windows frequently.

Which is best, key or thumb turn locks on doors?

We have the thumb ones. Front door has a yale lock too, so no danger of little ones getting out. My daughter (3.5) has never tried to open them (yet) I would risk someone breaking in easier rather than be stuck inside in event of a fire.

Chip in shower tray - does it need to be replaced?

Just removed all the silicone from the shower to replace it and I've found a chip (about 5cent size) in the shower tray. Does the tray need to be replaced? Is it likely that I can get this done without having to re-tile too?

Paying off part of a fixed mortgage

We have a part tracker and part fixed mortgage. We would like to pay a lump off the fixed part while leaving the rest of the fixed on the same rate, i.e. not change fixed rate. We are with AIB, is this possible? I'm sure they will suggest paying off the tracker but obviously it makes more...

Mains water frozen - I think. Tips?

I don't think defrosting the tank will get water back. Do your neighbors have water, if so its just your stopcock or he mains to your house. You need to defrost the stopcock or the water main coming into your house. If everyone has no water, it might be a burst main further away, notify th...

When will dog owners 'get' that lots of people are afraid of dogs

+1 And I hate people who leave their dogs roam housing estates during the day. And don't get me started on people who bring their dogs into our estate for a poo on the footpath. I'm scared of dogs but fond of walking. I am seriously curtailed in walking because of dogs, particularly the "home...

what makes a great family house? Wish List.

Floor to ceiling windows across the whole back of the house so you can watch children in the garden while inside. Stairs that goes straight up so you don't have a funny few steps to stick stair gates on. These are also much much cheaper to put the stair lift on when you are older. High...
