I am sure I am not the only one on here who likes to use Wikipedia, their annual appeal for a few bob to operate the site is open at the moment.

You might like to consider giving a little. It really is a wonderful thing and free, not just to those of us who can perhaps afford to pay something but free also to those in countries where things are harder.

Maybe a thought for this site also.

If this is in breach of the guidelines, please excuse. Perhaps an exception might be made.

The Wikipedia fundraising appeal is open again for 2020 if anyone is interested in sending them a donation. Still one of the best sources in the internet.

I donate every year. I bought a t-shirt from them last year and it didn't arrive.

"Welcome to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit.
267,535 active editors 7,119,346 articles in English"

I haven't contributed cash yet, the bolded bit above explains why. Any eejit with access to the inter tube can put/change anything up there and who's to know? Plus they can't spell; refer to the bolded bit again please :)

As a California based organisation, it shouldn't be a surprise that the English language version of their site is published in American English. Note also that the use of the American spelling is accepted this side of the pond now too, though encyclopaedia (itself an erroneous latin translation from Greek) is still favoured.

Peer review. Errors are usually easily spotted and corrected, and anyone posting false or misleading information will be prohibited from future contributions.

Wikipedia doesn't need the money, they already have enough reserves to fund the encyclopaedia in perpetuity especially seeing as its authors are not paid anything.

Where can I sign up?

San Francisco. Which is your area of expertise?

They include, by launch date:

Which is your area of expertise?

Wikibore: the adverse impact of the Hanseatic League on Irish exports to Central Europe during the 14th century.

(Sadly, it's a subject that doesn't often crop up in the taverns of West Cork, where Mercosur is the current hot topic.)
