Deffo agree with above. A forester showed me three pictures of trees sown at the same time. One was sprayed around to kill off all competing vegetation. The second had all competing vegetation mowed regularly and the last was left untended. The tree with all competing vegetation sprayed off grew a lot faster (seemed to be twice as fast).
