What should I do for the next few years before retirement?

f your UK money is DC you should be able to access it - although it has become difficult to open a SIPP without a UK address and you need a uk bank account for payments I think. DB is difficult as you probably know because it’s hard to get advice needed to allow you to transfer out. I looked into it for a small one and gave up.
You can ipen an international SIPP. I am in the process of transferring benefits from an old DC arrangement into one. They are very flexible about drawingsl down income(providedyou are 55), up to 25% tax free and have said they will pay to my revolut GBP account.

I only have an irish address.

Just summarise your position again @Annieindublin. You need to cover X (?) months from age 63 to age 65 (or 66?) before you can access your DB pension, followed by COAP at 66. Husband has 189k PRSA available now plus meagre redundancy plus will have 9 months unemployment assistance/benefit, and you could access the same if you left your job for stress reasons.

What annual costs are you looking to cover? Would you consider something like a Spry mortgage for a few years that you could clear (if you wished to) from eventual TFLS?

You will get JPRB immediately if you say you are quitting due to stress. Make sure to qualify for BP65 by continuing to claim Jobseekers credits.

If your husband uses his PRSA to set up an ARF, he can make larger drawdowns until you gain access to other retirement income.

ARFs are totally flexible. He can adjust his drawdowns to exactly match your required income for the next few years.

Just be aware of this though....

"Note that to qualify for either Jobseeker’s Benefit, Jobseeker’s Benefit (Self-Employed) or Jobseeker’s Allowance you must be genuinely seeking work and be available for full-time employment and these conditions continue to apply to all jobseekers.

Jobseeker's Pay-Related Benefit

People aged 62 years and over getting Jobseeker’s Pay-Related Benefit must engage with the Department’s Employment Support Services and participate in an activation programme."

This is not an onerous procedure. Generally over 62s will not be asked to engage in activation.

Over 62s are allowed JB payments into their bank account, but they must collect JPRB payments from their local post office.

It says the exact opposite in the link provided?!

Edit: Apologies @redstar.......I read it wrong!!

Theres different rules for JB Vs JPRB

JB - no activation participation required
"If you are claiming Jobseeker’s Benefit, Jobseeker’s Benefit (Self-Employed) or Jobseeker's Allowance and are aged 62 or over, you will:
  • Not be required to engage with the compulsory activation process
JPRB - activation required for all ages.
"Jobseeker's Pay-Related Benefit
People aged 62 years and over getting Jobseeker’s Pay-Related Benefit must engage with the Department’s Employment Support Services and participate in an activation programme.
"

Actual application of the rules might be different in practice though.

How engaged? Applying for x number of jobs is easy these days… send a few emails.

Even do an interview if needed.

I’ll be 64 this year, can’t see many employers bothering to even reply.

Might be different for my 60 year old husband with current skills.

So he’ll get pay related, then has to continue to sign on but will draw on his pension as well. Until age 65.. then gets BP65?

Hubby is now finished work. He will go to the intreo office in a day or two and sort that out.

I am struggling to stay engaged at work but I’ve July and august off at least to help me work out what is next. I am thinking I’ll hand in my notice in September.

Presumably I’ll get a tax refund, as will hubby I guess, and I’ve stopped my avcs to build up ready cash, only a little I know. End of 2027 I’ll have works pension and access to €245k avcs. End of 2028 I’ll have state pension and a year later uk pension.

In the meantime I’m starting the process of uk ISIPP.

we are going to be fairly low in ready cash and I can’t draw on AVCs until end of next year.

If I jump ship end of November it’s only 12k

lol that doesn’t matter… some is tied up for a couple of more years and we have some hefty expenses coming up that can’t be postponed
