What a match

Yes, it was an excellent game for the spectator. Loads of goals, emotive crowd, attacking-football, some split-hair decisions, a couple of penalties, less-diving and all to happen again next week on the return fixture.

A great game, one of the best I've ever seen, but it's hard to call it the people's game when it's owned by oligarchs and oil kingdoms and the players are getting paid hundreds of thousands every week.
 
Great game. VAR messed up for PSG penalty, clearly the ball went from body to hand....what point VAR if it cannot get decisions right?

Luis Diaz goal was of exceptional quality. Called offside by on-field official. Thank God for VAR to overturn the decision for such a great goal.

They got it right. The Premiership interpretation of hand-ball as an offence is different to the interpretation of the officials in charge at European and other competitions. It was discussed at length by the alikadoos on the BBC Match of the Day highlights programme last night. I managed to avoid the result of the PSG vs Bayern game until the programme and regret missing the live match. What a prospect the 2nd-leg fixture promises to be.
 
Fair enough @mathepac but it is a ridiculous interpretation. A deflection off the body onto the hand is clearly accidental where the ball movement is to the hand and not the other way around.

The UEFA Football Board (a collection of former high-ranking pro's from what I gather) has since 2023 recommended that this strict interpretation be relaxed. It is extremely harsh on the 'offending' player who by profession, is trained to put his body on the line for his team.

I'm tipping Bayern to progress to the final, I think they will edge in their own back-yard. Arsenal to progress also.
 
Anybody watch the snooker last night? Mark Allen missed a practically unmissable black to proceed to the final. His fans started cheering as soon as he hit the ball, taking it for granted that it was a formality. The cheers changed to gasps when he missed. Wu Yize potted the black to level the match at 16 all and then went on to win it.
 
Have Limerick just made a statement or what. I thought it was going to be a lot closer than that , phew. No Lynch , no Gillane , no problem.
 
Score Difference is going to mean an awful lot more in a couple of weeks when all Munster Championship Hurling games are over. Clare have dug a hole for themselves. Let's see if they can climb out.

And 22 year old Wu Yize wins 18-17 in the snooker world championship. Only the fourth time the decider has gone all the way to the final frame. Shaun Murphy was very good but some phenomenal shots beat him in the end.

And in an Agathe Christie like twist Wu (pronounced by the audience Woooo) missed an almost equally unmissable black off its spot when 17/16 up in the final albeit there was still some but not much snooker left to play to seal the deal. Murphy then levelled the match.
However on this occasion Wu won the 35th frame and the World Championship.
(was our Ken being a tad non PC when he commented at one stage that Wu had got his Wu-Ju going?)

If you watch the referee, he had his hand up to silence the crowd and as soon as Allen hit the cue ball he was in motion to start applauding his victory - extraordinary miss.

It was too much to expect another epic between Bayern and PSG.

I'm lost on the handball rule now, or at least the interpretation.

Apparently in Champions League, if the ball hits the hand of defensive player in the box but the ball was kicked by a team-mate, not handball.

Ok, I get the sentiment that it would be unjust that an attempted clearance was subsequently penalised for the unfortunate and unintended deflection onto a team-mates hand. And I agree.

However, if a defensive player puts their own body in the way of an attacking shot and blocks, and then the ball deflects against that players hand/arm, without any obvious intention (ball to hand) a strict interpretation applies and its a penalty!?!?

Nonsense.
