US ETF bought through US broker tax treatment

Hi, on the advice of an investment advisor we bought US ETFs through a US broker (via Conexim). The fees on the products were high but we were advised at the time to do this as we had significant CGT losses from the financial crash which we were told we could use to offset any gains on these investments. We held the investments for about 6 years and we disposed of them last year. We paid the CGT before the deadline but I am now filling the CGT tax return and struggling to fill out which line these investments fall into. I know this was a bit of a grey area and our previous investment advisor has retired. Is CGT ok or should we be paying income tax on the gains?

Are you absolutely sure that your ETF investments were subject to CGT (33%) and not 8 yearly deemed disposal/exit tax (38%, or 41% before the last budget?
