Key Post UK State Pension - Make voluntary contributions to qualify for UK pension on top of Irish pension

I paid back 17 years (up to 2022-2023) at class 2 in March 2024 and these were credited to my NI history online towards the end of 2024.

I've been waiting for a letter requesting a 2024-25 payment but haven't received it yet - are these still being sent out and should I just wait?

Also, I noticed online I can pay 2023-24 but it quotes the class 3 rate rather than class 2. Is this expected?

Thanks for your help.

For info - I received my letter to pay for 2024-5 this week and did so. It prompted me to check my National Insurance record and it has been updated and is showing full years for those that I paid in Feb 2025 (2006-2023). I was expecting to wait much longer!

Hi @Yam1960 , Thanks or that ..
My wife worked in UK from 89-90, so I have sent off proof of her Irish PRSI payments, to see if that allows here to make and UK Voluntary contributions.

Hi Mick999,

Can i asked where you send your appeal, no address for appeal on my letter stating i was only eligible for Class 3.

Thanks

Thanks DannyBoyD

Nothing about an appeal on the letter but there is an address on top right so I'll use that. I initially filled out the CF83 online.

I made a payment in February for the years between 2014 and 2021, and rang HMRC to tell them which years to allocate it to.

When checking online recently I noticed that the 2024/25 year was showing as fully paid, but none of the years I requested.

Rang them on Friday and was all correctly allocated today.

The guy I spoke to also said I'll have to pay a slightly higher rate for 2021/22 and 2022/23. Only an extra 20 quid or so per year - 182 pounds whereas my original letter from them in 2024 had these years at 158.60 pounds and 163.80 pounds respectively.

It's 179.40 for each of 2023/24 and 2024/25.

Check in a week or so and you should see it recorded as paid for 24/25
I still don't see anything for 24-25 single year contribution I made 5 weeks ago showing up on the HMRC account. I just paid over the money with the reference but am I sure they will assign it to me automatically? Do I not need to fill out a form or make a call for it to be allocated?

Same here. Paid online for 24/25 at the end of April and nothing has been updated . Might call them in a week or two .

Got callback from Newcastle this morning so they are working their way through it. Was in the car and didn't have all my info with me so they call back the next day. I'd applied for call back in mid march

If you do, let us know what they say to the question of 'Is it ok to simply pay over the amount for the year with your name and NI number as reference on payment, and do nothing else? Do they automatically pick up on it, or are we supposed to notify them that it's done.
Thanks

I sent the 2024/25 payment not long ago, it took a while but was processed and allocated to the right year. I didn’t need to call.

I am not sure how long it took but given that I paid online with all the reference numbers and I had only 1 year to pay it took longer than I expected

Hi, I paid my money in August '24, Received a letter in October '24 which acknowledged what I'd bought but it's still not updated online!
I tried phoning today but was kept on waiting for near an hour so gave up.
Wondering is there an address I could send a letter to querying why it's not updated online? Does anyone know of one?
Thanks

When you already have evidence (the letter you received), why bother? Is that not reassurance enough?

My record is yet to be updated online also. They are surely snowed under. Why not just let them plough through it? And then one day you'll check the online record and it'll be updated.

To quote (ish) a favourite line from The Simpsons - "to the most beautiful moment in life, not the deed, not the memory, but the anticipation".

Anyway, I'd better go now and do something useful.

I rang them a few weeks ago as alot of people I know are getting their letters for the 2024/25 payment and I didnt - they told me it was posted on 7 April ....still no sign of it!! How long does it normally take for a 2nd class letter to come from the UK to Ireland?

My daughter received her letter yesterday dated 5th. April. The postage is not correct as the post office has marked
the envelope in red and circled 1euro. We have had letters in the past without the correct postage. The other thing I seem to remember was that HM Revenue send their mail abroad to be sorted and sent from (I don't remember which country) not sure if this is still the case but the stamp looks French/Dutch maybe. This would account for the delay. There is no deadline it just says pay as soon as you can. Hope that helps?

I have been approved and have paid UK NICs (class 2) from 2016 up to 2024 therefore I now have 27 years of NICs in the UK , I just need to pay one more 2024 -2025.

I am 66 next November and I am applying for the Irish State contributory pension. I find the calculation of contributions for a pension totally confusing. In column 6 of my social insurance record statement I have 1450 Combined Reckonable Contributions and credited Contributions for pension, will this column be the number of contributions to be used to calculate my pension ?

Question 2. I am also worried about filling out the Irish pension application form as it asks if I worked in UK. It seems from earlier comments that they may use the UK NIC contributions I have to add to my Irish pension. I am worried that I would then not get the UK pension ?

I would prefer to get the two pensions separately, so I can avail of the UK NICs I have paid from 2016.
