Zelensky UNGA speech

Ominous speech from Zelensky talking about the collapse of international law and the weakness of international institutions.

Predicting far greater catastrophe in near future with the rise of weapons. Describing the current arms race as worse than anything the nuclear arms race ever produced as drone technology is getting so developed and cheap to produce that even N Korea announced the test of a tactical strike done.

I was beginning to endear to him as he called on the world to end the war and to stop Putin now.
He didnt say how though, and all I took from it in the end was that he was basically asking all of Europe to go all-in against Russia, without further delay!

"So we must use everything we have together to force the aggressor to stop, and only then do we have a real chance that this arms race will not end in catastrophe for all of us" - Zelensky.

Russia UNSC speech

Putin not attending the UNGA.

The speech was of course counter-Western views. Instead of Poland and Estonia entering into bi-lateral discussions over airspace violations (seems reasonable) they are instead buying the European kool-aid in general of being herded into brainwashing European citizens into Russia-phobia.

All-in-all, hard for me to avoid the conclusion that war, on a far greater scale, is coming to Europe unless some heads are knocked together.

Zelensky " international security guarantees mean nothing now just friends with weapons"
international institutions are weak and powerless they were unable to stop the russian invasion and other wars,
words mean nothing only weapons have power,
if you want peace you need weapons its sick but thats the reality.
Don't think that because you are far away in peace that war won't come to you.

I hope the irish government is listening to that speech intently

Consider the utterly useless referendums that have been put before the people, the one a lot of people would like a vote on is our continuing with neutrality.

We don't need a referendum to remove Putin's veto over whether or not we deploy out Armed Forces.

That's just an incredible interpretation of the speeches and the situation. I say incredible in that it lacks credibility. Russia is an expansionist dictatorship which has waged numerous bloody wars on it's neighbours since the current dictator took power. You are completely ignoring that and accepting Putin's bona-fides in a manner that makes Trump look like shrewd and worldly.

Russia is the aggressor here. 100%. There is no mitigation. There is no justification. There is no excuse. Europe is only arming in response to that. To do otherwise would be mind bogglingly stupid, naive and grossly irresponsible and would invite further aggression by Russia.

Russian regime also incredibly silly themselves, they hated when trump referred to them as a "paper tiger " , peskov said actually russia is more comparable to a bear than a tiger. That's the way to keep getting at them because all their propaganda is about projecting exaggerated power which even trump was drawn in by.

To give a direct Russian quote: "The very idea that war with Russia is unavoidable is being frantically pounded into the heads of the European populace".

What way would you interpret that other than the Russian position is that European population is being herded into Russia-phobia?

Direct quote from Zelensky: "Weapons are evolving faster than our ability to defend ourselves. Now there are tens of thousands of people who know how to professionally kill using drones...It used to be that only the strongest countries could use drones because they were expensive and complex. Now even simple drones can fly thousands of kilometres. War doesn't care about geography anymore. It is now re-shaping it."

What way would you interpret that other than Zelensky stating that time is running out, quickly. If Europe doesn't act now (to stop the war) the consequences will be far dire for everyone later?

That's not true. It's propaganda to deflect the simpleminded from Russia's aggression and culpability.
Russia could end the war tomorrow by withdrawing from the sovereign Ukrainian territory it occupies.

I agree with him. Russia won't stop unless it is made to stop. We can fight them in Ukraine now or much closer to home later.

That's not true.

That is the Russian position. Whether its propaganda or not, that it the true Russian position - that Europeans are being pounded in the heads to enter an unavoidable war with Russia.

Russia won't stop unless it is made to stop. We can fight them in Ukraine now or much closer to home later.
Sentiments like this would seem to endorse the Russian view.

Russia could end the war tomorrow by withdrawing from the sovereign Ukrainian territory it occupies.

Of course it could, but this is the simpleton interpretation of the reality.
You seriously think after 3 yrs of conflict with Ukraine, and 8yrs before that, some 1m reported casualties in Russia that they are even contemplating deciding tomorrow, or any day now, that the war is over, home we go - we lost??

Europe and US could end the war tomorrow by telling Zelensky to surrender, no more weapons, no more finance, its over - you lost!!

Deal with the reality - Russia is not going anywhere soon, and by the looks of it neither is Ukraine.

Rather, European countries are being readied for additional war - don't take my word for it, see what the French authorities are advising their health services, see what the UK is saying and doing. See what Russia is doing with its incursions. See what Trump has said about Russia being a 'paper Tiger'.

Europe is being ramped up for more war unless some diplomatic face-saving solution all round can be found. My guess is that either Putin and/or Zelensky have to fall first before a 'moderate' can replace either of them.

This war has nothing to do with Ireland. We are not under military attack. Citing unattributed cyber attacks as us being under attack because of indirect effects is daft. You may as well say price hikes in energy prices resulting from US and European sanctions is an attack on the elderly who cannot heat their homes during Winter - pure daft.

Ukraine is not in the EU. Ireland should continue is sustained support in non-lethal form and assist to broker a peaceful diplomatic solution if possible.

Yes, that's the propaganda that Russia is putting out.

Sentiments like this would seem to endorse the Russian view.
How so?

Of course it could, but this is the simpleton interpretation of the reality.

Yes, but Russia is an expansionist dictatorship which invaded a free democratic sovereign state in a totally unprovoked attack. If you have a shred of morality then rewarding that is not a good thing.

Deal with the reality - Russia is not going anywhere soon, and by the looks of it neither is Ukraine.
Deal with the reality; Russia will enslave Ukraine first but won't stop there.

Rather, European countries are being readied for additional war - don't take my word for it, see what the French authorities are advising their health services, see what the UK is saying and doing. The last thing we need is a latter day Neville Chamberlain appeasing a dictator who wants to enslave millions of people.

This war has nothing to do with Ireland.
It has much more to do with us, and has much more of a direct impact, than the war in Gaza... and yet...

We are not under military attack.
Yes we are.

Citing unattributed cyber attacks as us being under attack because of indirect effects is daft.
Pretending that they are not military attacks and not from Russia is daft.

You may as well say price hikes in energy prices resulting from US and European sanctions is an attack on the elderly who cannot heat their homes during Winter - pure daft.
Yes, that would be daft. Thankfully nobody is stupid enough to say that.

Ukraine is not in the EU.
Estonia is. Poland is. Latvia is. They would be next if your view that Putin can be appeased was being followed. Thankfully serious politicians and smart people know better.

Ireland should continue is sustained support in non-lethal form and assist to broker a peaceful diplomatic solution if possible.
The idea that we could help to broker a peaceful diplomatic solution is utterly fanciful and delusional and the sort of nonsense trotted out by that self aggrandising moron in the Aras and Putin's pal Connolly.
