RTE: "Poll suggests Heather Humphreys leading Presidential race" - totally misleading.

Is it all over now?
Certainly looks that way.

HH is an excellent politician, but lacks something in the personality / likeability sphere even for her target audience. (FF/FG)

CC has embraced the left and whilst also doesn't exude personality / likeability, she has garnered the non-government vote and also is not seen as "dreadful" by the centre.

Thankfully Steen didn't get a nomination - she probably would have done very well, and possibly won against two rather boring candidates, but she would have divided the country with her ultra conservative views.

In reality, its a "meet and greet" position. Paid well above what its worth. And whilst CC may not be everyone's cup of tea, I don't think she will be a hell raiser.

I really think the turnout will be the lowest on record.

So it's fine for Higgins to have done much the same for the past 14 years, but Gawd help us if a practicing Catholic was to get elected?

I don't think her views represent the modern Ireland of today. Far too divisive and such a person just not suitable for the role of presidency would be my view.

If she wants to get elected as a td - that is and always was open to her (I suspect its very very poorly paid compared to her current employment)

I agree.

I regard the current President as far too divisive and totally unsuitable for the role. Connolly will probably be equally unsuitable, if less bombastic and arrogant (then again everyone is less bombastic and arrogant than Micky D).

I don't think she's in a particularly well paid job at the moment. Micky D had his income from his property portfolio and his various pensions before becoming President. Connolly will also have other incomes, though undoubtedly less than Micky D.

Presumably, you being an open-minded Liberal - from the Michael McDowell school of Liberalism - would cheerfully have admitted that you were completely wrong about that, if she had managed to top the poll?

Listened to both of them on Radio1 this morning.

Neither gave any inspiration whatsoever. And the questioning from gavin jennings was awful. - It might have improved as it went on as I switched off after 10 min.

I suspect I will find better things to do next Friday and possibly the first election I have not voted in.

Roll on 2032

We’ll never know.

But it would have been interesting to see what level of endorsement she received for “her ultra conservative views”.

One can't string a sentence together.
I find it hard to reconcile the dithering HH presidential candidate with the HH minister for enterprise.

Regardless of your politics, she was very effective in that role.

I don’t think her heart is in it. I suspect she’ll be glad when it’s all over.

As opposed to adapting to any mindset Carl Marx tell her to.

That's extremely unfair to the lovely Catherine. The reality is that she has a fertile imagination and reacts to whatever is trending on social media.

Hence, if Conor McGregor (say) was to tweet that he likes sunny weather, then Catherine will immediately rail against the dangers of skin cancer.

And - rather amazingly - it's working! The lower that the bar is set, the larger the number of people who will jump over it.
