RIP Thread for Notable People

Watched film with Edward Fox the other day as we
I watched the recent Sky TV adaptation with Eddie Redmayne, had some good moments but overall unsatisfying. Original film was great.
iirc Forsyth lived in Wicklow for a few years as a tax dodge back in the 1970s and 1980s, and set some of his stories here in No Comebacks and Cry of the Innocents.

I hear you man. "Pet Sounds" and "Rubber Soul" kinda complememt each other. While they were in fierce competition for sales (via their record companies) on both sides of the Atlantic, musically they were very much in tune - pun intended.

I freely admit that I may be a complete philistines but while Pet Sounds was clearly a musical masterpiece and the harmonies on some songs are timeless and total earworms (Sloop John B) for me the lyrics are very pedestrian and lack any complexity or poetry.
That said Wilson was 24 when the album was released so it was a remarkable achievement for such a young artist.

Don't forget that in some cases the tracks released and heavily promoted were the record companies' choices rather than the composers'/artisits'. In this regard The Beatles, with George Martin's help and active collaboration, seemed more in control of their destinies than Brian and the Beach Boys. Much of the latters' output was undoubtedly background music to the California beach-bum/surfer life-style being promoted by the record company execs. Still, they managed to attract Glenn Campbell, no daw as a musician himself, to Beach Boydom for a while. They sure had something. They had it; Brian RIP had it spades though. Even complete philistines have their place in here as in life. ;)

On the age thing, some Beatles songs were kicking around in their heads/hearts from the time they were teenagers until they eventually saw the light of day on a record. Brian was deaf in one ear, as well as having his more widely discussed mental health problems.

Thanks, and that's not even on the first page of the list of things wrong with me that people have to put up with. Maybe that's why I have such a positive view of humanity in general :)

Lord Henry Mount Charles, best known for staging iconic rock concerts at his ancestral home of Slane Castle in Co Meath, has died at the age of 74.
His family confirmed that he had passed away peacefully on the night of 18 June, following a long battle with cancer.

John Clark has died aged 84.
A Lisbon Lion , a member of the Celtic Team that beat Inter Milan in the European Cup final in 1967 , a brilliant game indelibly stamped on my mind .
May the sod rest gently on him .

Mick Ralphs, founder member of Mott the Hoople and Bad Company has died aged 81 .
Mott , to my mind , were the best band of the Glam Rock era- always had an edge .
Mick never really got a look in as a song writer with Mott but wrote two huge hits for Bad Company- “ Can’t get enough “ & “ Feel like making love “
Rest Easy

There are quite a few YouTube clips on the recording of various Pet Sounds tracks with the legendary Wrecking Crew that are well worth watching if you have the time and the inclination.

This is one such - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVUBpzlELOg - and I've really enjoyed watching it and others on a couple of occasions, and will again now that the great man has left us for good.

Super finds thanks. I have the inclination and I'll make the time. An undoubted genius, but a perfectionist with stuff in his head in that brilliant mind others couldn't hear. Working with him seems to have exhausted his brothers, his cousin and poor Al Jardine, hence the Wrecking Crew aka The Monkees and 101 other bands of limited musicianship at that time. Apparently they rushed from one end of Los Angeles to the other, from one recording studio to another, spreading beautiful sounds as they went.

Rock on man.

Great actor, had an incredible presence in any scene he was in.
Incredible the amount of films he acted in. Brilliant in Donie Brasco and Kill Bill
