Revenue is hosting an over 65s "All you need to know about tax" event

Many thanks LD F for advising us about this event.

I attended this Revenue information session today, in Dublin as a non over 65, but gleamed some great insights and fed back a few home truths in the Q&A.

I attended the CAT, LPT and making a Will sessions in the morning and the afternoon sessions on Income Tax, CGT and the State Pension, which had a full room of attendees.

When I get the information pack from Revenue I will post it here.

When my wife retired my simple joint assessment return has become exceedingly tedious to complete, along with medical receipts and Work From Home expenses in my case. It really is interesting that the tax return process for those with declining cognitive abilities and going from a single income to occupational pension, arf, part time work and any other income is actually more complicated to file each year.
I asked Revenue to apply a “Ladybird” approach to this.

One observation I made, the event was attended by mainly Irish nationals, either our fellow non-Irish citizens are very tax au fait and compliant or simply we are the stupid people trying to stay compliant with our tax obligations, to use a term indicated by Revenue presenters.

I think age action Ireland are a supporter of the event, but I would say the content relevant to anyone over age 60

This is very true.

Have had similar experiences and - like many of our generation - we're petrified of getting on the "wrong" side of Revenue. For that reason I tend to underestimate stuff like claiming for working from home periods and err on the side of caution when it comes to medical expenses.

I think the bigger fish is CGT, they have a dedicated unit looking after it and it has a dedicated hotline phone number for queries.

With thanks to Revenue please find attached the presentations from the day
