Renewal on this policy on 1/4/20 is quoted as 820.37. Been on this policy for several years and can't at the moment myself see anything cheaper but I am happy to be proved wrong !

Also interested in this one.
I haven't been able to find anything comparable for cheaper but note that my quote for renewal in March was €933.74. Has this policy reduced in the past few weeks, because even with the 10% online discount, its still more than €820.37?

Hi Letterkenny and JimmyG,

Welcome to AAM. Firstly there is no exact comparable plan cheaper than Flex 500 Explore. Any cheaper plans would have either a shortfall for hip and
knee replacement surgery, or a restricted list of private hospitals covered.
The following VHI planis a cheaper alternative option, but there is a 40% shortfall for hip and knee replacement surgery in private hospitals.
So if cover for this type of surgery is important to you, then this plan is not suitable. Details as follows;

1. VHI One Plan 500; price 780pa; all public and private hospitals covered; private hospital excess capped at 500 x 2 max per year for all admissions.
Day case excess 150 per procedure.

2. The Laya Precision range of plans fully cover hip and knee replacement surgery in private hospitals but the range of private hospitals covered are
restricted. The private hospitals covered are shown on the Laya healthcare website, note the HIA website no longer shows the list of covered hospitals.

3. The following Irish Life Benefit plans 1 + 2 have a restricted list of private hospitals + there is a 2000 co payment for hip and knee replacement
surgery. If the hospitals covered suit your location and if orthopaedic surgery is not a priority, they are good value.

4. Lastly, the following Laya plan is 22 more expensive, but has better hospital cover. This plan fully covers a private room in a private hospital
and extra hi-tech hospital cover compared to Flex 500 Explore. Hip and knee replacement surgery is fully covered in all private and hi-tech hospitals,
no shortfall, no excess. Details as follows;
Laya Control 600 Connect; price 955pa; all public, private(including full cover for a private room) and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered; private/hi-tech
excess 600 per admission, day case excess 175 per procedure.

Thanks Snowyb. Precision 600 connect looks like a good option with only slightly less cover and an increased excess. Not sure if it's worth the saving considering the excess wipes it with just one visit.

@snowyb - could you give any advice on alternatives to Flex 500 Explore in Cork - cost has increased by €100 over 12 months. I was thinking of VHI One Plan 500, but not sure what I will lose. Thanks!

talbot,

While VHI One Plan 500 is a good plan that covers all public and private hospitals, it only has 60% cover for hip and knee replacement surgery
in private hospitals. This would mean a shortfall of 5000+ per surgery. If you are under 65, this may be ok but if you have any health issues
regarding hips or knees this plan would not be suitable.
Hip and knee replacement surgery would still be covered in the public hospitals, at no extra cost but the waiting lists may be too long.
The following plan fully covers hip and knee replacement surgery in the Mater Private Cork but there is no cover for the Bons Secours Cork.

1. Laya Precision 600 Connect; price 729pa; all public and a selected list of private hospitals covered(Mater Private Cork covered but no cover
for the Bons Secours Cork) private inpatient excess 600 per admission, day case excess 175 per procedure. Hip and knee replacement surgery
fully covered on this plan. Limited day to day cover.
