Our local Councillor got back to me today, and the reason for the rejection was............ Planning as been sought on the site 5 times in 10 years, each time rejected. The last time was in 2001.
When I rang the area planner before I applied for the planning we were told we would be looked at fairly. She was moved on a few weeks later!!!.
But the good news is, if we can find a site within one mile of wifes birthplace where the site as not been rejected we should be ok.
