Recommendation for Heating Programmer

Hi,

My house is plumbed/wired for individual control of two heating zones (upstairs and downstairs) and HW. At present all is control as one 'channel' from a basic mechanical timer.

I would like to get a programmer that would enable me to control the three channels individually. I came across the Horstmann ChannelPlus that seems to fit the bill ( http://www.horstmann.co.uk/downloads/ElectronicDocuments/Central-Heating/ChannelPlusH37XLDatasheet.pdf )

Does anyone have any experience with this programmer?

Or could you recommend an alternative?

I am a little concerned that there are only three ON periods per day. However, I guess that cranking up the boiler on several occasions is probably not very efficient? In any case use of the programmer with programmable thermostats could be one way to create more on/off periods.

thanks.,

i am trying to put in a 2 channel horstmann and cant seem to wire it up rite there is live neutral and then terminal 1 2 3 4 i have the live and neutal connected and hot water into 2 and heating into 4 but dont know were put wire for boiler cos if put in with either i only get 1 wrking

We have that one and its the business. The boost button is worth the money alone!
The three times are also controlled by the thermostat so you don't need to be switching it on and off every hour for ten minutes to keep the house warm. It will work best with good digital thermostats I think. We leave it on for longer periods and have the thermostat decide to switch on the boiler or not.
Good placement of the thermostats is important too, not near rads etc.

We had the plumbing for the zoned but also needed mechanical switches to complete the job. We got it done by a heating company and claimed 500 euro back form SEI as an energy efficiency grant.

I recommend http://www.heatmiser.co.uk/domestic.htm

See the features like setback, optimum start, frost protection, 4 heating times with importantly 4 temps.

You would need just two devices (a 230v PRT and a 240v PRTHW) the PRT for upstairs and the PRTHW for downstairs (the HW stands for hot water) ALTHOUGH hopefully you have a four wire cable going to your planned thermostat locations.

These devices are clocks and thermostats in one unlike the Horstmann which is just a timeclock. A three channel Horstmann will cost you at least €100 and you still have to buy the thermostats after that. The two heatmisers mentioned above cost about €110 + postage.
