My son is starting a bit of part time work in Northern Ireland and his employer wants a bank account in N.I. for paying wages into.

Is there any problem with opening one?

Just in case you haven't guessed, he lives in Donegal

Shouldn't be any problem. I opened an account there 5 or 6 years ago to receive regular payments from the UK. The tax man will want to know about any interest earned if the account is a deposit and will determine the currency conversion rate.

If I remember correctly, several years ago the Revenue here asked the NI banks to report all accounts in their books belonging to Republic customers so I suppose that it could happen again.

Thanks pat. I will get him to call some of the banks and he can take it from there.
Hopefully the tax wont be a problem.
