Northern Rock bailed out by Bank of England

I thought so too. But I have gotten through to the security question every time for the last 2 hours then the message so not sure.

guess what "due to system maintenance" the BOI 365 site and telephone banking is down also. Is there a message in this? been using 365 for years and never heard this B4

I've just closed my account. I got to the reference number stage. Now I just need to wait for the money to arrive in my account - hopefully.

Good Luck!

Tried to get onto the BOI site too..... No sucess either... Wonder what's going on??

That's good to hear jinty. I was planning to go to bed but might keep trying for a while.

Interesting. I've heard of the for assessing the suitability of investment risk/volatility to an individual's specific needs but this is the first time that I've witnessed it in action!

dont hold your breath anyone who got in and thinks they have withdrawn their money. just managed to get in and accessed my account. I got in at 1am last night (14th) did a same day transfer and the money is still in NR.(1.30am 15th)
transaction is showing up as pending!! its gonna be a long weekend.

A tip - if you get into your account and you subsequently get the timeout message, right click on the window, select this frame and click on reload frame. You will be asked if you want to submit postdata - say ok.

Be careful, though. If it is a postdata form for a transfer, it may do the transfer twice!

Not sure if this will work on the second security question or not (i.e. you could already be signed into your account).

Hi all, managed to get thru to NR @1.40am, transaction showed as pending. Tried to email them thru secure email feature but session timed out again. Agree it looks like its gonna be a long weekend!!!

Logged in successfully at 02:26. Withdrawl of most of my deposit listed as transaction pending.

Couldn't risk leaving the money there as this is all my recent redundancy and I have a young family to think of.

Best of luck to everyone else in whatever you decide.

2:50am .....Website sees to be working OK now, a little slow though. I just withdrew 98% of my account on a same day electronic transfer (for Monday). My main concern was that I was only insured up to €50k max and I had more than that in NR. Having said that I really believe I'll be putting a lot of it (<€50k) back into NR again in a week or two. I never thought I'd really be looking at bank solvency as an investment criteria in this day and age. Right..back to bed now!

Set my alarm to get up when I thought traffic would be light.

what does this message mean?

'Electronic withdrawal, cheques and Internal transfers must be submitted by 1500'??

Set the alarm for 5.00 am. :(

Got through to the withdrawal stage and then right at the confirmation stage it said "service unavailable"

Tried again. It worked. Took everything out except for €1000 in each of my two accounts.

I'll probably be back when all this has blown over. If they offer market leading rates.

"submitted by 1500"pm probably means there's an extra days delay if you don't. Presumably doesn't apply on a Saturday.

Now back to sleep.

Accessed my account to check if the same day telephone transfer which I made at 4.15pm yesterday was appearing as a pending transaction. It was not.

The person at NR I was speaking to may have put the transfer date as Monday. Would this show now as a "transaction pending" or will it only appear on Monday?

Just an update on above post. To check position, I withdrew an extra amount off my account and it showed up as transaction pending.
I then cancelled this and put thro again the combined amount I had requested on the phone plus the additional amount I had just put thro.

This amount is showing as now as transaction pending. I'm happier at that rather than waiting for some manual input at NR. I don't understand why the amount wasn't put thro straight away by the person I was speaking to. Were they merely taking a note of telephone withdrawals and then put aside to be actioned later?

My previous post about calling into them seems to have been deleted. Anyway... I dropped in. Unlike the pictures and reports on the news, there was an orderly (seated) queue of about 15 people with paperwork in hand and worried looking workers doing they best they could to help.

Towger

I've been trying to log into the site again for the last 10 minutes, but still no joy.

As a matter of interest, is anyone else being prompted for exactly the same characters from their password every time (character 1 and character 9)? I can't remember whether it used to do this before - if so, then it just means that their authentication process is crap (effectively you just have a 2-character password), otherwise it might be an indication that the site is buggered to some extent. Obviously, not good news in either case.

I seem to be getting the same characters also everytime, but in my case it is 8 & 9.
