You'll need fewer of them — 400 buses will require about 1200 drivers. A rail service with similar capacity will need a fraction of that number of drivers. Will it be easier to find train drivers than bus drivers?

I agree. I don't care how much it costs to build it. Over its lifespan the capital cost will be small. My mind boggles that anyone actually objects to it to be honest. The cost will be monstrous but it'll be a once off (long run cheaper than bus & bus-lanes). Have the objectors never been to a city with functioning metros like Paris, Berlin, Prague etc? How could anyone travel on any of those, come back to Dublin and be thinking "god it'd be awful if they built something like that here?...
I looked this up and it seems that it is, in overall terms. (A children’s hospital in Dallas, Texas is said to rank higher in cost per bed, but that's a different metric.)the children's hospital is not the most expensive children's hospital in the world
Hang on, there are planes at the airport??? Who let this happen for the love of God!!!don’t want to hear aircraft flying nearby
Measured by cost per bed it's the 6th most expensive hospital currently under construction.I looked this up and it seems that it is, in overall terms. (A children’s hospital in Dallas, Texas is said to rank higher in cost per bed, but that's a different metric.)
We're gone off-topic but in terms of money it remains the most expensive children's hospital in the world.Measured by cost per bed it's the 6th most expensive hospital currently under construction.
Measured by cost per square metre it's the 13th most expensive currently being built.
Good luck with that. There's barely room for the trains that are already using the tracks. We could also build an extension to the Dart line from either Howth Junction, Sutton or Malahide and connect that to the Airport. Again, no need to consider any underground options, it's too expensive and slow to deliver
Used to happen to me all the time 20 years agoPeople in my team commute via bus for their office visit, constantly late due to buses being full and passing them out, not showing up
and @Dr Strangelove out of curiosity what routes?Used to happen to me all the time 20 years ago
MetroLink will be driverless. Of course this is far easier to achieve in a closed system like MetroLink and many metro systems throughout the world are already driverless. Will it be easier to find train drivers than bus drivers?
Which is great news; we are getting a very large, very modern Children's Hospital which, measured by meaningful metric, is being built at a competitive price. We're gone off-topic but in terms of money it remains the most expensive children's hospital in the world.
This would remain the case even if there were more beds or more space in it.
Also remember this is just for the airport stop, there are still all the other stops to consider. The last thing Dublin needs is 400 more buses.
All of them.and @Dr Strangelove out of curiosity what routes?
Absolutely correct, and in addition, this would only give a connection from the airport to the city centre. MetroLink is so much more than that.Good luck with that. There's barely room for the trains that are already using the tracks.
Well the first sensible thing to do would be to get the dedicated DB 747 & 757 bus back in operation for the holidaymakers and then leave the other buses going through the airport for commuters. Also remember this is just for the airport stop, there are still all the other stops to consider.
Yeah that still happens, if the bus can't make time it's directed to go empty to garage or terminus depending on time / driver breaks etc.Drivers used to throw us off buses short of the terminus, switch to drop-off only,
Where would we get the drivers or the road space from? The capacity of MetroLink is over 6 times that of a bus lane. Even if we did somehow construct 6 bus lanes (which would probably cost just as much as MetroLink), it would still be so slow.Well the first sensible thing to do would be to get the dedicated DB 747 & 757 bus back in operation for the holidaymakers and then leave the other buses going through the airport for commuters.
