Michael O'Leary: "Dublin Metrolink - Waste of Money"

Maybe there are better alternatives, but a train link from the airport to a country's capital city can never be described as a waste of money.

Hopefully once its built further lines will be added to make Dublin city actually livable.

I live in Dublin and find it very livable. I go from Churchtown to Glasnevin each day for work. The commute is 25-30 minutes in the morning and 35-40 minutes in the evening by car and 35 minutes each way by bicycle. I could get the LUAS but that takes an hour to an hour and a quarter.

I can get into the city centre in 20 minutes by bus, 25 minutes by bike, 25 minutes by car or just under an hour walking.

The dream.
1.5 hours door to door in the morning
2 hours plus in the evening

Maybe the Metro might be built before the train in Navan and then I can use it for part of my journey instead!

You and @BIG-notorious are the first people I have heard in the last couple of years to say you are happy with the service.
I specifically said it was awful. Better than it's been in the last 30 years isn't the same as good. Just not so nighmarishly awful as it used to be.

That's a savage commute. Is that 5 days a week?

I'd always settle for a smaller house rather than a longer commute. That said for many people it's a case of no house or a longer commute.

Thankfully only once a week but for how long who knows.
I moved house during Covid so my commute before that was 1 hour max each way door to door.
But live in a 1 bed grotty apt forever with kids smoking crack outside your front door or a house in quiet estate, no brainer x

@Fortune The word "extension" does imply more rail tracks, you know

And yes, I would love to go a step further and run an extra rail line from Drogheda to Connolly Station, to the like of the Enterprise could run straight through without negatively impacting on the existing and future DART schedules too :)

I can't believe Dublin still hasn't made much progress towards building metro lines (not just a single one to the airport).

If you've spent any time in a city with them - you'd know how big of a quality of life improvement it is.

I'm not sure a hyper capitalist like MOL thinks much of any public expenditure - has he ever called for increased investment in public services?
Secretly, I'm sure he's delighted that every audience he grants with the press gets such wide-ranging coverage. He's the Roy Keane of his field.

Reminds me of Bertie, creating a solution for a problem that didn't exist.

"Bertie Ahern worried Ireland was 'a laughing stock with our stupid old pencils"
