Hi.

My husband is a linesman working on overhead power lines but he is not an electrician.

We are working for a UK based company here in the Midlands and am trying to understand Irish regulations.

I think he is supposed to belong to an E.R.A. but I dont know if its construction (CIF) or electrical or possibly neither.

We are trying to work out if my husband is being paid correctly.

Someone mentioned a JNIC as being a recent wage negotiation but again I dont know if its construction or electrical.

Husband would rather not ask employer until we're knowledgable enough to have a constructive conversation.

At the moment we'd have to accept employer's word for everything?

Any advice. Thanks.

Dunno if anyone here will know the answer (I don't) but I reckon if you ring Dept of Enterprise & Employment (number in phone book) they should know.

Thanks for that. Sadly DETE wasnt terribly helpful. It all boils down to the question of whether a linesman belongs to the Electrical Contractors Trade Union Regulation Agreement (even though he is not an electrician and has never trained as one), or the Construction Industries federation or neither of the two.?

You would probably have a better chance of a response if this was posted (or moved) to an appropriate forum: Careers...?

Is your husband a member of a trade union?

You could call TEEU. I think they organise linesmen in ESB and Telecom. They might be able to help you.
