Carbon tax , thats why its cheaper.

The coal is for personal use. Thus I am not a First Supplier of coal in the south and the Solid Fuel Carbon Tax doesn't apply to me.

And if I was a First Supplier, accompanying the coal across the border would not exempt me from being liable for the SFCT.

You are not a supplier at all.
It must be for your private use and you also must accompany the fuel into the state. Thats what the law says.

Can I ask how long you were waiting for a refund?
It takes the banks time to process these transactions. While the originating account will be debited straight away it can take a day or more for the credit to appear in the destination account.

I buy a 2 metre high one from monaghans(oak normally). The service always excellent and i think the price is ok but haven't carried out extensive research

I normally use them for Oak too, but came across these guys this year. It's currently €560 for a 2.3m crate of oak, making it slightly cheaper than Monaghans this year if they deliver to your area.

Thanks 2.3 metres wont fit in my garage though so probably go with monaghans again next time

It's an impressive size, alright it was even cheaper a few weeks ago at €505 for the crate. It wouldn't fit in my shed either, so I'd to break it down and stack it into the shed, as they say it warms you twice that way!

6. Lidl seem to be stocking Surefire premium bags - don't know if they are same size as Surefire's own offering but they are only 5.99 and kiln dried. If your local Lidl doesn't leave if its firewood outside in the rain this is a good option
It's a 5kg bag, they're ok. Sligo Lidl has them just inside the front door so nice & dry & the bags are the woven kind like coal bags, so no bits of wood all over the car!

Get a couple of cheap racks from Amazon and line them up against a wall with a gap between them so you can use the space in between also. And as other posters say, you get warm twice from the additional work of breaking up the bag and stacking.
My 2x "ton" bags arrived from Dublin Logs and they turned out to be gigantic sacks - easily the size of my car lined up beside each other. Driver helped me cover up with tarp also while waiting for the rain to die down so I can stack in my racks.
