as I said in another post - be very very wary of reading too much into hysterical and sensationalist media headlines especially from the independent / herald. Some commentators say the CB already have powers
The CB themselves say
- They don't have sufficient powers
- Legal action would be too drawn out and time consuming
- Customers they suggest should take legal action!
All this suggests the CB has no interest in solving this.
When the government want something done they employ a person with proven record. I'm thinking of Frank Daly running Nama.

The CB did NOT say customers should take legal action - they said that at the end of the process after they have completed their work and they are happy with the results there MAY be a FEW people who feel they have been left out.
Those people will not have the staute of limitations applied and they may if they wish take a case to ombidsman/ courts without the statute of limitations applying.
That is quite different to the indo's sensationalist headline - so always be wary of any reports int eh indo - they seek sensationalist attention over and above any actual real reporting - and its a pity because it used to be a decent paper.
Yes that is unanswered at present, but you need to understand that any that are left at the end of it probably won't have much of a case. The indo rushed to jugdement (as it does so often these days) with their hysterical headline and then too many people believed it.One question that the Central Bank hasn't answered is if those "FEW" who feel they have been left out, have already been to the previous ombudsman what can the new one do for them? My understanding is that the original findings are binding on both sides.
The central bank seems happy to solve the big chunk and hope the others go away.
