How much should you give as a wedding present?

For one couple whose wedding I was invited to (afters only) I actually gave them a card plus a small amount of cash and a gift wrapped pot of jam I made from blackberries picked around the estate the wedding was held in. I never got a thank you card from them so I guess they weren't impressed. Mind you the marriage didn't last either!!!

I never bother with the afters. Was only ever invited to one. Seemed like an afterthought and meant I'd also have the gift dilemma & potentially staying over in hotel etc....too much hassleand no dinner ,) thanks but no thanks.

Personally speaking after a mind numbing traumatising wedding of a cousin of Mrs C's 10 years ago I swore never again
It may be the happy couples "special day" but for me it ain't in any way
But the question isn't do I attend weddings but rather how much do you donate to the happy couple

For me, €100 is the minimum then after that it depends on how close and what relationship I have with them
I'd probably max out around the €500 mark if they were close to me and I like them a lot

But it's also a question of how much can you afford, for some €100 is not a problem but for others it might be
If that's the case then in my eyes a smaller amount is just as acceptable
And then don't forget, it will also depend on how many weddings you're going to be invited to and attend
I know one of my friends daughters went to 12 weddings in a year and a half, Absolute madness!!

Maybe they fought over the jam?

I feel an afters invite is fine for a group of team mates or work colleagues especially if it's close by and no overnight stay is required. It can be hard to make a call of who's in and out so easy to open the afters to a wider bunch and they those closest will probable go.

I got married last year. It was second time around so it's a sham marriage as we are both divorcees and so we are both still married to our previous spouses in the eyes of God. That took the pressure off us on the day. Though it's a much more serious commitment second time around as by getting married it means we're probably both going to hell.

It was nice to get presents but it wasn't that big a deal either way. It was all cash or gift cards as we've more than enough stuff at this stage of our lives. I couldn't tell you what the average gift value was.
