How do you sell a small holding in shares?

A friend (yes a friend not me) has 20 BOI shares currently quoted at about €260.
She wants to sell them but it appears she has to open a stockbroker account and the admin fees will then wipe out the value. Is there any way around this?

Good point @Cervelo. Perhaps the original poster or their friend are mistakenly looking at the original nominal price on the shares rather than the current market price?

Just to note, as mentioned several times in the other thread that I linked to, BOI shareholdings are all now electronic and any paper share certificates still knocking around are of no value/use/relevance since dematerialisation of BOI shareholdings at the start of 2025.

Think I read somewhere that BOI are considering a "buy back" for legacy shares, so I'd probably wait a while and see if it transpires
It's mentioned in the thread that I linked to above.

they have been saying that for some time now about buying back
From this year's AGM in May.
Q. B: SHAREHOLDER LOOKING TO SELL THEIR SHARES

Some Shareholders asked if the Bank would be repurchasing small Shareholders shares as some peers have done in an ‘Oddlot’ offer.

It was noted that this is not something being considered at present but being kept under review. Such an offer would require Shareholder approval at a General Meeting.

Also, some Shareholders asked how they may sell their Shares in an economical manner. Currently they should contact a stockbroker directly. The Bank is currently reviewing options on this matter.

looks like you are in luck BOI are offering to buy up small lot shareholders.

Also they are looking to exit the London stock exchange because of very low trading volumes they said. Thats a bit peculiar though why would there be very low trading volumes for BOI in London but not for other irish stocks like Irish continental group or DCC ?
