House Insurance - large increase

Any value out there?
The only way to get a good price for the level of cover that you need is to shop around as widely as possible online and maybe by calling a couple of brokers. Too many variables and actuarial criteria to generalise from one person's quote to another's unfortunately.

anyone noticing big jump in cost of house insurance?
Every year at renewal my current insurers invariably try and fleece me with significantly higher premiums despite never ever claiming for anything.

Solution is simple and as advised above. Pare back a few hours and start trying to beat it by ringing around or even easier going online

This applies to everything- utilities etc, every year challenge the price. If not then you will be ripping yourself off.

I got an email from AXA this morning to remind me that my policy will be renewing in August so I better go and start the quotes just to see what is out there before the renewal comes in.

Yeah thanks all for responding. Bone weary of the usual merry go round of the phone or online battle to get better costs. Yet must do. Just wondered if anyone found better value and highlighting the cost jump in the never ending cost jumps of everything at moment.

Give Allianz a shot. Generally find them to be reasonable. Have 6 insurance policies with them. Circumstances may vary though.

On the hunt for home insurance myself, and I saved over 65 euro on my renewal quote by getting a quote as a new customer from my current insurance company - for the exact same level of cover.

Always worth a try!

Found SuperValu home insurance beat anything I found elsewhere.. also they give 40€ vouchers which were a bonus (not factored in when comparing prices). It's an AXA policy.

My renewal with 123 was cheaper than any new quotes I could get. They automatically adjust the Sum Insured to cover build inflation but it was approaching the market value of the house so I reduced it marginally and also badgered another 10% off them when I called them! Still a c. 15% increase on last year.

Be cautious of letting market value overrule the actual rebuild costs. When it comes to a claim it's only the latter that the insurer will assess. To be safe you should ensure you are using the SCSI estimates as your base and adding sufficient extras to cover your situation. I've family who had to come up with 10's of thousands after a fire when in those circumstances.

Got my renewal notice from Axa, it was €476 last year, up €46 now to €522 so we need to try and get that down a bit. Not the worst increase.

Plus building costs have increased massively. In addition it can be cheaper to purchase a house than the rebuild cost. One other thing I've noticed, insurance companies are very careful now how much they pay out, very strict, hiring a loss assessor can be a good bet, because they will argue the case for you.

Which is why as far as I'm concerned one should never claim the alarm discount. They can claim that you left the alarm off or it was not functioning properly. A friend was asked to pay €100 to get a report done on her alarm before they would consider the claim. When she went ahead and did that they turned down the claim because they said the alarm was faulty.

My goodness !

And thanks for the top tip, learn something new on here all the time ............
