Has anyone actually gone through this? Is it a big job? Do all the walls coming off the party wall have to have stud walls build a gap from them too.
Thanks

Re: Has anyone experience of building an independent stud wall to counter neighbour n

About 30 years ago whilst living in London I had a 'deaf' neighbour who played loud thumping music late at night. No good talking to her, so I built a stud wall 4" inside my bedroom wall. First I took off the skirting, then cut the floorboards about an inch out (to stop vibration). I stuck 3" sheets of styrofoam onto the wall, then 4" fibre glass in the stud wall. Then screwed plaster plank onto the stud, before nailing resilient bar on. Finally, I screwed 1/2"plasterboard, scrimmed and skimmed it. That took most of the noise and ensured a night sleep.

Thanks for your reply. It does seem to be the most successful way to reduce the noise. Did it take much space from your room? Did you just do the party wall in that room? Someone said I would have to do the walls that come off that party wall as well!
Would a joiner be able to do this job.

hi, it is a very simple but rather expensive project, due mainly to the cost of materials, IE acoustic insulation, acoustic plasterboard, i have just completed such a project and the results were superb. Expect to pay around( euro 75 )per square metre, this would include labour

Our party wall runs approx 10 metres from front of house to back of house. It is a a very standard 3 bed semi. Can you just do one room at a time ie.a wall coming off the living room party wall and then the kitchen/dinette party wall. The kitchen/dining area has double doors which separates it from the living room. Do two separate stud walls have to be built or if it has to be the one the whole way, how will this work?( as there is a section of wall that comes off the party wall that the double doors are in)
I hope someone can make sense of this!

Where are you based? Was it a similar type of property and what type of noise was it to decrease?

Music has started up next door. Will a stud wall help to decrease this?
Also what do we do about the fireplace - a standard modern design and the sockets?
