Gifts for Teachers

Maybe the teacher would interpret Lynx as a not-so-subtle hint around personal hygiene?

Ah, I dont think so Complainer :) The teacher is a lovely young man who is always turned out like a new pin :) Even spotless people use deodorant!;)

We bought 'our' teacher a modest €12 box of chocolates from a specialist chocolate shop. That's not over the top, is it? Other kids in our daughters class gave perfume, tins of chocolates etc... That, IMO, is over the top.

Dont mix up two things here !

one: training your children to appreciate people they love, adn to say thank you for wowrk done well, and to grow a friendship with someone who has helped them- even, and including, their teacher!

two: the gift does NOT have to be expensive can be a home made card can be a cheap bottle of wine or an "accessory"- eg a cheap bracelet- a silly coffee mug--the idea of the child CHOOSING the gift.

I have been a teacher who very seldom got a gift- they were banned in my (second-level) school. But there is a feeling that you are taken completely for granted by parents, I must say,- especially as not a school in the country could be run well without the VOLUNTARY extras that teachers do. In my time I have gone to all sorts of meetings at night for all sorts of classses and events, Masses, shows. I have gone away on trips and weekends and brought them to outings, theatres etc etc etc-- and a thank you IS very acceptable, and always given by the kids.
My daughter is a primary teacher who gets lots of little gifts from the kids in her class at Christmas- never anything expensive, and she gets a real kick out of the home made ones, however amateurish--and of course - the wine...!!!!

Well, true to the spirit of many of the posters, I brought my little fella out today to pick a gift for his teacher. I was determined not to influence his choice..... I now have to wrap a Super Duper Pump Action Water Gun

Lordy, Lordy... Im glad Im not picking him up from school tomorrow....

Too funny!!!! definatly a case of giving something you want yourself!

I actually forgot  and only stumbling across this thread earlier this evening reminded me. Thankfully, Mr Bubbly was going out to get diesel so he took the little one out with him. She came back with choccies, a fridge magnet and a card. She wrote a poem she made up in the card and the chocs are apparently her teachers favourites.

Wheew!

I still do that, and I'm in my thirties - hence my niece getting an expensive Indiana Jones lego set for her communion present. I 'helped' her assemble it, and even managed to convince my sister that it was her (my sisters) idea to get it.
