Just getting back to reading this as my own searching and renewal is done and dusted for this year. I want to echo the thoughts of other posters, some great work in this thread @ClubMan.

Well we're now up at 90e temporary change fees, and they can't simply create a new policy for the new car as it's an import, so it needs to be referred on and will be 24-48 hrs before AIG the underwriter comes back.. that's after being in online chat for 40 odd minutes. ... to answer your qu, I think there was a 50e difference between next cheapest. How i wish I'd paid it now
