Dublin Bay South Election - Voting.

You don't need a polling card.

Just go to the polling station and bring ID with you.

If you are on the register, you will be allowed to vote.

I have just voted. I brought my own pen with me, but the clerk told me I had to use a pencil, so he gave me a pencil.

There was a piece by Una Mullally in the Irish Times yesterday attacking James Geoghegan which was one of the most biased things I have ever read in any Newspaper. It's obvious that the IT is a strong supporter of Ivana Bacik but they could make some attempt to even look balanced. I'm saying that as someone who would probably vote for her if I was in that constituency. Of course Una also had to show how all the wemmen were great just in case we forgot about the patriarchy.

It was an extraordinary piece which will probably backfire. Even Irish Times readers don't like being told how to think.

It was so biased that it would have turned people off.

It was actually a few days ago, and FG got a right of reply in the Irish Times yesterday - the day before the election.

An article which I didn't have to read as the sub-editor summarised it in the headline thank goodness. I cottoned on to Una Mullally modus operandi a couple of years ago and have blissfully ignored her since. She does the paper she writes for a constant disservice with her 'agenda' articles which simply drags it down. So much for being the paper of record...

What's remarkable is that Bacik is from just as privileged a background as Geoghegan. Her family is wealthy, she went to a private South Dublin school, she's a barrister and an academic. In fact she had just as privileged a background as Mary Lou.
Her smokes salmon socialist credentials are impeccable so I understand why the IT love her. I think she's a very capable person and a voice that's worth listening to, even if I don't agree with her paternalistic elitist socialism.

Well I've just had a scroll back through his articles to the start of the year and there is not a single one that could be described as a polemic against any individual from any Irish political party, Fianna Fáil or otherwise. Now indeed he does give Boris Johnson a bit of a kicking, but that is probably fair comment anyway!

His latest article where he had a go at the RC Church-FF axis which ran the country is just silly; every political party, especially FG, kowtowed to the Church until relatively recently. The Labour Party were certainly the strongest voice for liberal social change in recent decades but the PD's, who were right of centre on economic issues, were a very liberal party. That discussion is over, thankfully. Fintan hates FF and everyone in it and never tries to hide that. He said that the best day of his life was the day CJ Haughy left politics. Not the birth of his children or the day he married or any other personal milestone. I found that sad and rather pathetic.

I really don't understand this comment.

If you think she is a capable person and a voice worth listening to, why do you have to start with the bit about her background.

Are you suggesting that as the product of a wealthy background she is somehow less worthy of election. if not I really fail to understand what point you are making.

No, the Irish Times hatchet job on Geoghegan referenced his background as a negative. I was pointing out that Bacik had a similar background. That sort of inverted snobbery bugs me, as does the fact that so many people who regard themselves as academics resent the way many less educated business owners are richer than them.

Ivana Bacik is 2/5 favourite with PP from 5/4 second favourite a week ago. I think the article did damage Geoghegan. I see John Bruton had a letter in the IT criticising the article.
Newton Emerson is IT's best correspondent. Great article in today's paper pointing out that in fact the EU are at least as disingenuous as Boris on this NI protocol thing.

Are you the Duke of Marmite? Newton parroting DUP/ Brit propaganda on the protocol. Utter tosh.

This is disgraceful. I dont get to vote in this election because of some arbitrary reason like having an odd numbered postcode.
I could be there in no time by boat.

Like the Seanad elections its D4 stitchup.

Ivana to makes it,
She is what Dublin bay south need, Dublin is after having a very bad run of politicians in recent times,
I was for James Geoghegan winning until I heard him on about housing I think he was downplaying the cost of housing,
which was good but not what the NIMBY want to hear,
in other words, he is not the type the NIMBY vote for, they were looking for a Michael Healy type in a suit and not be noticed,
He would make a fine politician if elected will stop the bad run Dublin is having when it comes to electing TDs,
Ivana and James same background it is the people who did not vote for either who will decide which get elected

I think Ivana has the edge and will look after the transfer voter before no 1
the same if James gets elected,
A no 1 vote for James or Ivans is a wasted vote,

It seems that you are disagreeing with yourself in the same post.
You may me a Joycean scholar and maybe I just don't get that stream of conscience writing style or something. I think it's something.
