Dalriada, Dublin 16

Ye to my understanding its Ballycullen Road that is the dividing line between D 24 Vs D 16. Although historically I think that the area around Woodstown & Dalriada was classified as D 24.

I suppose the lines need to be drawn somewhere but it would seem that the M50 would have been a logical point to do that!!

Woodstown and Dalriada are officially Dublin 16. Whether or not they are in Knocklyon is disputable. I remember when the area was farmland and it was always considered Ballycullen, not Knocklyon. Areas that are now "Ballycullen" were considered to be in Firhouse. Glenvara Park on Ballycullen Road was built around 30 years ago and would have orginally been called Templeogue (Knocklyon being part of the greater Templeogue area). Also Knocklyon Castle is located on Knocklyon Road and considering the age of that I suppose people have to accept that that side of the Ballycullen Road is Knocklyon, D16. I haven't lived in Knocklyon for a good few years now and I think that the area in general has gone majorly downhill as its expanded. I still have family and friends living there but the majority of people I knew in the area have moved due to anti-social behaviour. I went to visit a friend in Knocklyon recently on a Friday nite and I couldn't get over the amount of little scumbags going around in their tracksuits and knacker drinking on the greens. It makes me laugh how some people in Knocklyon have such a snobby attitude about Ballycullen/Firhouse when there are just as many little skangers living in both areas.

As Ive said Ive lived in Knocklyon all my life and I have to agree. There is graffiti everywhere. I even saw the little sh$%sspraying a freshly painted wall around the corner from where we live at 8.30 on a sunday night. Only for I was in my friends car I would have jumped out and yelled at them. Its so awful. I wouldnt mind but its the same intials been sprayed all over the place and they are crap as well.

All my life when I tell people Im from Knocklyon they go "Oh yeah, tallaght". To be honest I dont care what post code I live in. Superquinn is constantly surrounded by large gangs. TThankfully they havgot security guards to move them on now.

The bus service has gone to pot. Even though they have introduced a school coach the school kids are purposely waiting until afterwards and filling up the buses. By the time it gets to the Knocklyon garage its full. I counted 25 school kids the other morning that could have got the school bus. That prevented 25 workers from getting into work.

Sorry... ranting on her. Just sick of the place at the moment.

God you are giving knocklyon an awful bashing..
I have lived all my life in knocklyon also and I love it. There will always be the odd one or two knackers wherever you go but apart from that knocklyon is fine. I wouldn't live anywhere else.
In reference to Superquinn and the young lads hanging around there, sure I did that all of 15 years ago and I certainly was not a knacker just because a few if us used to meet there!

I have to agree with bobbles! Sure wherever you go now there are young lads & lassies hanging around trying to look like scumbags. They might look intimidating but they are just kids. We all did the same hanging around shops/chippers when we were young.
If you go to Rathfarnham you will get the same sort of behaviour. Go easy on Knocklyon!!

I was one of those teenagers that hung around too but we never spray painted the whole area with stupid looking intials.

Im not saying Knocklyon is a bad community because its far from that.I love where I have grown up and I proud to say I am from there. Its got one of the largest primary schools in Europe and the waiting list just proves what an excellent school it is. The new secondary school scored very highly with the leaving Cert results.

Ive a lot of friends that live in Knocklyon. I met a lot of them in St Colmcilles and I would be lost without them.

Its always lovely to know when you go for a walk around the area you always bump into someone that you know and have a nice chat with.

My point is that the area has changed a lot, I hate that the walls are being destroyed with graffiti and I dont think that the infrastructure is there to match the houses that are being built.

If I could catch those little sh^&ts Id have such a go at them and remind them of the beautiful area they live in and to stop with that f-ing crap they insist on scrawling on the walls.

Thats all.. sorry if it came across as anything else :(

I totally understand... it is pretty annoying when you see all graffiti everywhere and it does take the look out of knocklyon.
Glad to hear that you still like some part of knocklyon though even if it is just memories of St Colmcilles...!!

Not where I live!! One of the main reasons my family moved from Knocklyon was because in a lot of other areas the local kids don't want to be scumbags

Its not like Knocklyon is a disadvantaged area. A lot of these kids have fairly well-off parents with good jobs so I really can't understand why so many kids are turning out to be such little knacks.

I'm not saying Knocklyon is a total kip. Its an ok area and there are some very nice people but for years people in Knocklyon have been blaming all the anti-social behaviour on kids from Firhouse, Tallaght, Ballyboden and Whitechurch which I think is really unfair because I know a lot of the vandals and scumbags are from Knocklyon.

Oh no, Ive a lot more good memories and continue to do so. As I said Im proud to say I live in Knocklyon. I just wish the graffiti would stop. They even scrawled on the beautiful stone wall thats built behind knocklyon Heights. When I saw that I couldnt believe it.Its not like you can paint over that !

Just wanted to add my opinion.I grew up in knocklyon, went to St Colmcilles school and Church , worked in a local shop and socialised locally in Rathfarnham. I moved out of the area 2 years ago to get a foot on the property and am now moving back to Stocking Wood, and cant wait. Most of my friends that I grew up with in Knocklyon are still in the area or intend moving back so it cant be all that bad. There is good and bad everywhere but my family never had a problem in Knocklyon and are still very happy there.

Anyone who bought in Dalriada had any word on snagging yet? I just heard from my Solicitor that the management fee's for houses is 517Euro! Plus there are no bins anywhere near my house!

Duplex

Was i right in hearing that the duplex's in Dalriada are only 450 k?Thats an unbelievable price for a propety thats over 1,100 sq ft.Had a quick look around(didn't see in) but they look pretty cool.why are they so cheap?D16 too.

I went to have a look at the showhouses recently and thought they were good value too considering they are bigger than a standard 2-bed apartment. I think they are 'only' 450k as they have an apartment underneath them, and there is also no garden. Also, they probably pitched the prices at that level to get the interest in - the builders are competing against nearby stocking lane for buyers!

Granted you have an apartment underneath and no garden(terraces are nice and big though)but the size of the building is bigger than most 3 bed houses in the area.Remember some apartments off the ground floor in stocking wood were even more expensive.i've also been on to the estate agent for Dalriada who said all the duplex's were snapped up v.quickly and have a big cancellation list suggesting future blocks will be more expensive.Interestingly the apartments below duplex haven't sold as well

have to agree with parkview, i was brought up in the knocklyon/templeogue area and its shocking the whole post code thing going up around ballycullen there, it was never considered knocklyon tho with new raod networks and the extension on the m50 creating a slip raod over to ballycullen know the developers are stretching the post codes. the first developement up there was woodstown (came out of know where) and somehow got away with calling itself knocklyon, like no othere estates in knocklyon driving arounds woodstown estate u are being constantly reminded u are in knocklyon with signs such as keep knocklyon tidy and on the plaqes on the pillers for the estate there is a reminder that ur in knocklyon again knowing that if all that wasnt there ud think u were in firhouse or something. Hunterswood , d24 fair enough and now dalriada (where did they get that name from, a spanish holiday resort) is jumping on the band waggon with the d16, tho worse of all stocking would facing this estae calling itself rathfarnham !!!!! in all fairness, woodstown, dalriada and stocking wood would all be great places to live and all look like very well finished nice developements but the only people beleiving them post codes are most likely people not from the area and tink there buying into knocklyon and rathfarnham but arent at all... be carefull

I'd be more interested in what parish these developments are in, particularly for schools purposes. Dalriada is in Knocklyon Parish. As far as I know the Ballycullen Road has always been the end boundary for Knocklyon Parish. Does anyone know what parish Copperfield is though? Is it Knocklyon or Whitechurch?

B.T.W. the Dalriada, or "race of Riada," are descended from the High Kings of Ireland.

I agree with that but how do you go about checking the actual postcode or parish it seems the developers are able to do what they like

Has anyone got access to TV stations in Dalriada yet!! I cannot pick up any, I rang NTL and they have no record of the estate. Well check that, they have a Dalriada but its in Portmarnock. You gotta love NTL.
