Car Parking Rights

Our company have informed us that we are moving location in the next couple of months - I've had car parking in the current location ( for the last 12 years !!! ) but they are now saying there will be none available in the new location, well at least not for scrubbers like me !!!

Obviously 12 years ago parking was not an issue and so was not specified in any contracts. Now that it is an important to people especially when relocating closer to a city centre, am I still entitled to it as part of a "contract" of employment ?

I believe that there is "redundancy" issues when moving location, but advice on the above would be most appreciated - don't particularily want to leave the company as I'm very happy there.

How far are you moving? Are you a union member? Have you informed the company of your concerns?

Hi Rainyday,

thanks for the reply. As the crow flys not moving that far, however because of location a 20 min drive becomes approx. an hour and a quarter on public transport.

No union I'm afraid.

have been looking at citizensinformation website but can't spot anything that says if you've had a perk for a period of time you're entitled to hold on to it or be suitable compensated.

There is an entitlement to redundancy if the company moves more than 20 miles (or possibly 20km).

There is a general principle in industrial relations of 'custom & practice' giving certain entitlements to employees. However, I don't know if there are specific rulings on this - you may well have to start negotiations with your employer, either on an individual or group basis.
