Buying built-in appliances in Northern Ireland?

I am thinking of buying 6 built-in electrical appliances:

hob
oven
extractor fan
microwave
dishwasher
fridge freezer

I am based in the northwest.

I wonder does anybody have any experience of buying these items in NI?

Has anybody ever done this?

My parents bought Bosch built-in appliances up North in Watters in Cullaville. They seemed to think it was a good buy and delivery was free. That was 18 months ago and there have been no problems.

I'd strongly recommend Watters in Culloville to Mullen Domestic in Enniskillen. Ask for Seamus in Watters or Barry in Mullens.

Bought Rangemaster stove (duel fuel), built in microwave and a Telly 37" LCD samsung from Hardys in Newry. They did hit me for delivery though. Not too badly though and the prices were excellent overall. Felt happier about this than say, buying over the net from the UK mainland.

Do bear in mind that if the worst happens and you end up wanting to sue a NI-based supplier or distributor in respect of defective goods, non-delivery etc, you will probably have to locate a UK-based solicitor to pursue your claim and you will be unable to use the Irish Small Claims Court and other processes that you would normally have if you deal with an Irish supplier.

what about warranty, will you be covered by the republics service companies

Thanks for the advice.

I will try Mullens in Enniskillen.

It might also be worth trying McElwaines in Enniskillen. They specialise in TVs and similar electrical goods but may also do white goods appliances. They are very nice to deal with and highly reputable so I doubt if my caveat above would be an issue with them.

I live in Monaghan and would have priced appliances in both these shops and found that Flemings Electrical and Gillanders Electrical in Monaghan had just as competitive prices most especially when you are buying a few items.

We bought a lot of stuff from Flemings in the past. We found their service outstanding and their prices competitive. The guy we dealt with there was called Gillanders. If he has opened his own shop in the meantime, we would have no hesitation in recommending him too.

As always anonymous third party recommendations via PM should be treated with the utmost caution, particularly when made by new posters.

Also try Rock DAC in Newry. They sell refurbished/returned appliances. I think they have website with contact details. If not you can find number on www.bt.com

And first times posters are also suspicious. Paulo99, welcome to AAM, in accordance with the posting guidelines, could you confirm whether you have any association with the above business?

Absolutely none, I bought from DAC 2 years ago.

Which particular posting guideline are you refering to? I have just read 1 through to 20. Are you refering to No 6?

You are welcome to recommend or fairly criticize a product or company. But if you have a connection with the company or any other potential conflict of interest, please state this in your reply.

As I do not have an association or any other potential conflict with DAC I do not understand your request as this goes beyond published . I have been using site on and off for months, not a new user, just a new registered poster.

I also bought from Flemmings in Monaghan and found them very competitive, especially if you are buying a lot of stuff - plenty of room to negotiate. They also accepted sterling. I dealt with Robert - bang on lad!

I have no association with Flemmings, just a happy customer.

Paulo99,

as a new poster, people will automatically be suspicious of any recommendations you make, at least until you build up a track record of contributing to AAM over a reasonable period. In the meantime, you might be better off refraining from making any such recommendations, at least for the moment.
